Position Purpose:

This laboratory technician position is in a drinking water/environmental laboratory and treatment facility. It involves extensive outside work in an industrial environment, calibrating and cleaning online instrumentation and early morning bench lab work for daily compliance samples. This job is typically 5 days per week and will involve some weekend days.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for performing routine analyses on samples in accordance with company and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure proper written and electronic documentation of all test results including QA/QC.

  • Sets up equipment and instrumentation required for tests or process control. Cleans and makes minor repairs on laboratory apparatus and equipment and ensures a high standard of housekeeping, quality control and safety.

  • Maintains chemical and supply inventory in the laboratory.

  • Preparation of standard chemicals when applicable.

  • Cleaning, calibration and minor troubleshooting/repairs of online instrumentation in the treatment plant

  • May assist in other areas or with special projects directed.

Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:


  • High School Diploma/GED required.

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with coursework in Chemistry or Biology preferred.

  • Zero to two years of experience in a related position in a similar environment with ability to use laboratory apparatus and equipment to perform accurate, repeatable work and to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:


  • Strong team player.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Time management: the ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines.

  • Strong customer orientation.

  • Knowledge of computer programs.

  • Minimum typing speed of 30wpm.
