Job Description:

New England Biolabs (NEB) is inviting applications for a scientific project manager to support and drive forward projects related to innovative next-generation sequencing products. Working in collaboration with a team of development scientists and a cross-functional product team, the successful candidate will be responsible for planning and coordinating various aspects of the project from inception to commercialization. The Scientific Project Manager will work to support technical goals and can expect to engage in direct benchwork up to ~30% of their time.

Primary Responsibilities:


  • In collaboration with representatives from development, production, and commercial teams, help define project scope, goals, and deliverables for new product development projects.


  • Develop and maintain detailed project plans, schedules, and risk assessments.


  • Ensure project team members have the necessary resources and support.


  • Communicate regularly with project team members and internal stakeholders to provide updates, feedback, and guidance.


  • Help solve technical challenges via brainstorming and hands on experimentation as needed.


  • Serve as an alpha tester for protocols/workflows as needed.


  • Monitor and evaluate the progress and performance of the projects, identifying and resolving issues or challenges that may arise.


  • Ensure that projects comply with all relevant standards, regulations, and guidelines.


  • Support project closure activities, including lessons learned, feedback collection, and evaluation.


Required Qualifications and Experience:


  • Master’s or Ph.D. degree in a scientific or technical field, such as biochemistry, biology, or chemistry. Exceptional candidates with a bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience will be considered.


  • Proven experience launching products or managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders.


  • Hands on experience with next-generation sequencing, library prep workflows and general molecular biology techniques.


  • Knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.


  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.


  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.


  • Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented and collaborative environment.


  • Ability to take initiative.


  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize tasks accordingly.


  • Keen attention to detail.
