This role will be hybrid in our Maitland, FL office.

Summary:

As an Associate Fire System Designer, you will prepare for national account customers, submittal ready, code compliant, fire system designs under supervision for transmission to the local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJ). Successful preparation ensures that the AHJ can successfully review, approve and permit those systems and builds individual skills.  Provides national expertise of fire code interpretation and compliance for all states and counties, including but not limited to National Fire Prevention Association (NFPA) and International Code Council (ICC) fire codes, used in the system design work and as a support group for the project teams and customers.  The position is active in the fire alarm and fire suppression communities.

What You'll Do:



  • Maintain Knowledge Base of Fire Alarm Industry:



    • Build current code knowledge.



    • Maintain and pursue licensing.

    • Review new industry products.

    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key individuals and organizations within the fire alarm industry.



  •  Perform Fire Alarm System Design and Review:

    • Fire system design will be performed using AutoCAD software, utilizing customer provided architectural drawings.

    • Design fire systems per local, national, and state codes, as found in research documents.

    • Learn and become proficient in completing battery calculations, riser diagrams, and details that pertain to each customer or type of system.

    • Work within the timelines and constraints of the project to ensure timely performance and completeness of requirements.

    • Assist with jurisdiction contact information. (Internet, phone, etc.)

    • Under supervision, assist in creating bid submittals for prospective and current customers when necessary.



What You'll Need:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent 


  • 2 - Years’ Experience in Designing Fire Systems:

    • Knowledge of Codes, design standards and technology, AUTOCAD experience required.




  • AutoCAD:

    • Application to system design.




  • Basic knowledge of NFPA (National Fire Prevention Association) Fire Codes and ICC (International Code Council); Fundamental knowledge of Fire Alarm Systems and their components:

    • System design, code compliance, plan approval, industry standing.



  • NICET I Fire Alarm Systems Certification - Preferred:

    • Application to system design, code compliance, requirement for jurisdictional design certifications.

    • If no current NICET certification, this will be completed via our company program within the first year of employment. 




  • Proficiency in Excel and Outlook required, D365 preferred, and other specialized software:


    • D365 – project navigation, updates.




    • Excel – reporting, tracking.




    • Outlook – high volume of email traffic communicating with Account Teams, AHJs, TSPs, and customers.
