Job Description:

Zingerman's Bakehouse is looking for an instructor for BAKE!, our hands on teaching bakery school for home bakers. If you are a skilled artisan bread and pastry baker and love to teach, please consider this position in our fast growing school.

The instructor works with the schools Principal, other instructors and support staff to further develop BAKE! as a premier baking school. The position blends baking talent, teaching skills and an entrepreneurial spirit to work toward realizing our vision.

What does the job pay?
Minimum starting rate $20.00 to $25.00 per hour, wage negotiable depending on experience

What are the requirements and skills needed for this job?
Availability:
Is willing to work a flexible schedule including weekends, evenings and holidays or as needed as business dictates. We teach all day on Saturdays and Sundays and generally two evenings each week plus other daytime classesFull time position, 32-40 hours per week, as the schedule dictatesTeaches minimum of 5-6 classes weekly

Performance Expectations - Essential Functions:
Lead and/or assist in a minimum of 5-6 classes per week which are scheduled for weekday afternoons/evenings and during the day on weekendsSupervisory responsibility for an assistant and dishwasher while leading a classOver time learns to teach all of our classes (approx. 60)Works independently in a classroom settingProvides the Zingerman's Service Experience and Service Expectations to students and co-workers (as taught in our Zingermans Orientation Classes)Prepare written materials, recipes, timelines, ingredients and bakery space for classes (training provided)Potentially works with guest chefs/bakers to develop content and materials for either a demonstration class or a hands on classDemonstrate strong teamwork, organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to break complex concepts down to an appropriate level for students.Possess a knowledge of baking science from the performance and functionality of ingredients, how the ingredients change in an oven environment and how to bakeLoves ongoing learning and personal developmentHelp train teaching assistants and dishwashersAttend weekly BAKE! meetings and assist in making department decisionsBecomes an active participant in Zingerman's Bakehouse

Physical Requirements:
Lift 50 poundsStand for many hours at a timeCan teach for 8 hours in a day

The Success Patterns for this position are:

Where are we?
Zingerman's Bakehouse is located on the south side of Ann Arbor at 3711 Plaza Drive. While there is a bus stop within walking distance, the Bakehouse is NOT located on AATA bus route.
