Coating/Sand Room Mixer Operator. This role will report directly to the Manufacturing Supervisor.

A Coating/Sand Room Mixer Operator is responsible for running sand coating and brick extrusion equipment and setting equipment needed in order to produce the required amount, and style, of brick on the production schedule. They typically work in teams with at least one operator on the extrusion side and another operator on the setting side. They will use computer or plc controls to operate the equipment.

An operator will also need to follow directions in order to mix color additives or sand coatings as needed. They will be trained to operate a lift truck and a skid steer (Bobcat). Equipment changeovers are a regular part of the job. Using basic tools along with lifting equipment parts will be required.

They will be required to maintain records of their daily production. The ability to read and write English is required. The job is currently one shift, 5 days a week. There is opportunity for overtime. There is occasionally Saturday work that will be required. This will be scheduled ahead of time.

An operator will also be asked to help with special shapes manufacturing when needed. The shapes production area is a smaller version of the main extrusion line that makes architectural shapes for specific orders. There may also be special tasks assigned by the department supervisor, such as cleaning up the floors and equipment within the manufacturing department.

Ability to stand for up to 10 hours daily
Ability to constantly use both hands/arms simultaneously to grip, lift and carry bricks weighing 16 to 35 pounds - up to 4,000 repetitions per shift.
Ability to constantly bend and twist at the waist, knees, and neck while packaging brick from floor level to 65 inches - up to 4,000 repetitions per shift
Ability to frequently reach overhead up to 75 inches
Ability to visually inspect brick for clarity and color


The required skills and education to be successful:

Previous experience in a production environment
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training
Able to perform various form of physical labor (i.e lifting 50 lbs/ standing)
Read, write, speak English and basic math to record data correctly.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Committed to working in a zero harm workplace
Able to work flexible hours when needed

Work is performed primarily in a standard manufacturing setting.
Production facilities are not climate controlled, and work is outdoors and indoors in all types of weather conditions and work environments.
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand for extended lengths of time (i.e. flagging operations), walk, sit for extended lengths of time (i.e. operating equipment), drive, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, grasp, hold, and manipulate tools; talk and hear. The employee is routinely required to climb (i.e. ladders and stairs) and stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl or stand on tip toes for extended lengths of time, and must routinely lift and/or carry up to 75 pounds alone, and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus with or without ocular aids. The employee must be able to work in variable temperatures and weather conditions and near traffic with varying noise levels and with varying types of equipment and vehicles. The employee must have the ability to work around and tolerate heat and dust.
While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is regularly exposed to outside elements of wet and/or humid conditions, rain, and heat; moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles. Requires the ability to work outdoors in all weather. The incumbent may occasionally work with electrical devices and be exposed to vibrations and steady level of loud noises.
