What You Will Achieve

 

The Process Safety Manager role works closely with the site Process Safety Program Lead, Pharmaceutical Sciences organization, other science lines and facilities, to ensure compliance with Pfizer's Process Safety Management standards. The role is tasked with understanding the site's active pharmaceutical ingredient (API), drug product development, and drug product manufacturing processes, leading Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) or other risk assessments using appropriate methodologies, issuing reports and tracking action item progress, supporting the site's PHA revalidation process, developing risk mitigation strategies, conducting investigations, and supporting dust hazard analysis and the combustible dust management program.

 

As a PSM team member, the Process Safety Manager will provide PSM expertise to the site and provide mentorship to other colleagues. The role will provide guidance on appropriate PHA methodology and create / manage site PSM compliance documentation. The Process Safety Manager will need to work successfully in cross functional teams to ensure that process and equipment design incorporates process safety and other corporate standards at every step to ensure safe research in the development of Pfizer medicines.

 

How You Will Achieve It

 

  • Interpret, implement, and execute internal Pfizer Standards related to Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements for API, drug product development, and drug product manufacturing.
  • Lead both comprehensive Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs) on new and existing processes/facilities, as well as detailed risk assessments for other tasks and equipment as well as in support of capital projects.
  • Verify facilities teams are effectively implementing mechanical integrity programs.
  • Lead complex investigations to identify effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Conduct benchmarking with internal and external partners to support the science line SMEs in developing alternative solutions to complex problems.
  • Complete site self-audits and identify opportunities to improve inspection-readiness.
  • Identify and develop initiatives to improve productivity of EHS programs and systems.
  • Work closely with science line SMEs to identify alternative solutions that will drive results for EHS action plans to exceed Site EHS metrics and objectives.

 

Qualifications

 

Must-Have

 

  • Undergraduate Degree in Engineering, EHS discipline, Risk Mgt or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a relevant industry e.g., pharma, biotech, chemical.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of OSHA PSM regulations.
  • Formal PHA training with experience in different PHA methodologies.
  • Understanding of and experience with NFPA 652 Standard on the Fundamentals of Combustible Dust.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a diverse PHA team and facilitate productive meetings.
  • Understanding and working knowledge of asphyxiant and hazardous gas safety
  • Experience in using multiple investigation techniques.

 

Nice-to-Have

 

  • Certified Environmental/Occ Hygiene/Safety professional; with continuous professional development.
  • Chemical or Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Experience with vent and emergency relief sizing.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $93,500.00 to $155,900.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 12.5% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
