Job Description:

SUMMARY:
The person in this position assists the mechanical manager in supervising employees in their daily work projects and overseeing the safety of those who are employed in the maintenance of the locomotive fleet. He or she ensures all G&W safety rules and practices for Mechanical Department employees are followed explicitly. This person manages the maintenance and repair of locomotives and railcars so that they meet FRA standards while reducing life-cycle costs and increasing reliability and availability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
•Maintain employee safety records regarding scheduled safety-rule presentations, job briefings, and safety films; prepare schedules for the aforementioned events
•Assist in the work process to maintain locomotive periodic-maintenance schedule and ensure locomotives arrive to the shop on schedule
•Assist in the maintenance of locomotive files to comply with FRA periodic-inspection rules and G&W rules for record retention
•Carry out decisions concerning correct repair-and-maintenance practices for locomotives
•Perform daily service of locomotive units (fuel, water, lubricant, and oil; wipe down and clean unit/windows; check supplies and drinking water)
•Assist in periodic and annual inspections and understand FRA regulations pertaining to inspections
•Assist with other projects and perform other duties as assigned

 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
•Knowledge of the safe handling and disposal of hazardous and nonhazardous waste products
•Five plus years mechanical shop experience with working knowledge of EMD locomotives, familiar with FRA regulations as they pertain to locomotives 

•Foreman or leadership experience a plus.  

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS: 

• High School diploma or GED


• Valid Drivers License
