JOB SPECIFICS

Full-time, benefited; 72 hours per pay period; hours will vary between 0630 and 1830 M-F; includes a holiday rotation and call rotation

JOB SUMMARY

The Hospitalist PA/NP will assess, diagnose, treat and/or refer patients in accordance with the standard of care and with consideration to appropriate Wisconsin Statutes and Federal Regulations. The Hospitalist PA/NP will function with a collaborative physician.

MAJOR JOB FUNCTION

  1. Performs initial and follow-up evaluations and examinations and records findings. Obtains complete medical history on patients. Reviews patient records and dictates articulate and concise information into the medical record.
  2. Interprets and integrates data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
  3. Orders appropriate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
  4. Orders prescription medications as needed.
  5. Performs evaluations on patients and generates a continuing treatment plan into the EMR.
  6. Interprets x-rays, CT scans, MRI's and other diagnostic testing with support from physicians as needed and discusses findings with patients, therapist and staff.
  7. Instructs patient and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provides patient education.
  8. Performs hospital rounds, charts appropriately in EMR.
  9. Consults and collaborates with other professionals; makeing referrals when appropriate.
  10. Participates in professional development activities and maintains professional certification and affiliations.
  11. Maintains excellent personal relations and communication with all members of the hospital staff.
  12. Demonstrates proficiency in regard to the computer documentation of patient care and any other related computerized patient information/documentation.
  13. Performs related work as required.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  1. For NP:
    1. A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Nursing as well as current licensure as RN in State of WI.
    2. Current BCLS and ACLS certification (or eligible)
    3. Current certification from AANP or ANA as Nurse Practitioner
    4. Current DEA Certification (or eligible)
    5. Current licensure (or eligible) as an Advanced Practice Nurse Prescriber (APNP) in the State of Wisconsin
    6. 3 years of experience in general medicine and/or family medicine is desired but not required.
  1. For PA:
    1. Graduation from accredited Physician Assistant Program.
    2. Current Certification from the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
    3. Current licensure (or eligible) as a Physician Assistant (PA) in the State of Wisconsin.
    4. Current BCLS and ACLS certification (or eligible)
    5. Current DEA Certification (or eligible)
    6. 3 years of experience in general medicine and/or family medicine is desired but not required.

QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS

  1. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  2. Excellent human relation skills as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees.
  3. Must acquire the knowledge and maintain established competency levels to perform essential professional practice.
  4. Must have proficient computer skills with the ability to operate within a Windows environment.
  5. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling, and coordinating work with others.
  6. Needs to possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and ability to comprehend and analyze details.
  7. Maintains a working knowledge of theory, principles, techniques and practice of scientific principles and research; of preparation, administration, and actions of medications; of treatments and medical procedures; of counseling and teaching techniques; of medical equipment as it relates to patient care.
  8. Ability to operate and handle many kinds of complex equipment.
  9. Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for pediatric through geriatric patients.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  1. Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, and talk and hear.
  2. The Hospitalist PA/NP is frequently required to stand, walk and reach with hands and arms. The Hospitalist PA/NP is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  3. The Hospitalist PA/NP must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  4. Good hearing is necessary to receive detailed information through oral communication and to make fine discriminations in sound.
Visual acuity is needed to assess color changes, to verify accuracy of written materials.
