Job Description:

Avalara is looking for a Senior IT Architect with experience in strategic initiatives and IT operations. The team is open to discussing a remote work location (US-based) option. #LI-remote.

What you'll do:

We are looking for you to facilitate the discovery, research, and designs associated with the software development lifecycle. You would assess and recommend appropriate processes and technologies that are well aligned to the company's charter and mission.
  • Scale and calibrate the architecture practice to the increasing needs of the business.
  • Perform continuous improvement activities like technology assessments, change management, and governance operations, in partnership with the program management team.
  • Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps and operational areas.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that integration solutions align with business needs and adhere to established guidelines.
  • Provide technical input into the development and maintenance of the IT portfolio, ensuring a cohesive and strategic approach to project selection.
  • Leverage opportunities for innovation, such as proof-of-concepts and hackathons to highlight your expertise.
  • Research solutions, assess options, and formulate proposals to meet business goals.
  • Collaborate with your team to provide current and target state architecture.
  • Identify gaps in business processes and recommend design remediations.
  • Directly accountable for the conversion of product requirements into reference architectures or designs for key business needs and operational processes.
  • Present architecture recommendations, solutions assessment of options and designs to the IT Governance Board.
  • Influence conceptual and technical solution designs for assigned feature improvements to meet business requirements while ensuring compliance with established architectural concepts, and governance processes.
  • Refine processes for work intake, governance, and change controls that align with the organizational strategy and IT roadmap.

What you'll need to be successful:

  • You have 8+ years of relevant and progressive work experience which must include operating at an Architect-level.
  • You have at least 5+ years of experience establishing and developing an Enterprise Architecture Practice.
  • You are experienced with technical debt remediation, application rationalization and integration strategy.
  • You have experience in producing targeted designs and executive-level presentations that highlight our needs facilitated by seamless integrations of systems.
  • You are well-versed in navigating an environment experiencing exponential growth, with potential unknowns, and constant evolution.
  • Experience communicating composite technical issues and solutions in a clear, simple, and apprehensible way.
  • In-depth knowledge of modern design fundamentals, application development, process, and data architecture.
  • You enjoying focusing on propensity to frame intricate issues into simple constructs that can be used to communicate to a wide, diverse audience.
  • You have an undergraduate Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience.

About the Team:

You would be part of an influential Enterprise Architecture team which is focused on developing high-quality solutions based on modern cloud-based technologies. You would also improve the foundational needs of the Practice, while facilitating IT Governance and Architecture Operations. You will be an individual contributor reporting to the Director of IT Architecture.
