The OSP Field Engineer specializes in performing engineering activities at a job site or out in the field. The Field Engineer will gather field measurements, data, photographs, and notes for various work orders, attachment and occupancy applications, permits, developer plans, and other related Outside Plant (OSP) engineering activities.
Essential Functions:
Gather, organize, and deliver OSP field engineering design specifications and notes per direction of Network Planners and Engineers
Inspect, recommend, and solve work order obstacles and record discrepancies encountered in the field and refer back to Network Engineer
Help validate and maintain land base and Continuing Property Records (CPR) for outside plant cable/pole records
Field, validate, and respond to pole Notice of Intents (NOI), Pole Application Requests (PARs), and Conduit Occupancy Requests (CORs) received from the electric utilities and CLEC/carriers
Gather and prepare necessary joint use and permit information to be used in applications submitted by Network Engineering with other utilities or municipal authorities for approval
Assist in field audits as required
Inspect poles, guys - strands, conduits, manholes measure, aerial/underground distances, and other OSP support structure requirements
Interface with engineering firms, developers, authorities, and other utilities to secure copies of plans for new developments, commercial complexes, public improvements, and projects requiring placing or rearranging of utilities
Validate make ready estimates received by HT and find solutions to reduce or eliminate the costs
Other related OSP engineering duties as required
Education:
Four years of College resulting in a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent
Bachelor's degree or equivalent in civil, mechanical, electrical engineering from accredited college/university would be beneficial
Certifications, Accreditations, Licenses:
Must have a valid driver's license
Relevant Work Experience:
1 to 3 years in related field
Demonstrated experience using and reading G/COMMs, Microstation or AutoCAD drawings desired
Previous outside plant experience and/or a demonstrated understanding of outside plant network elements desired
Previous experience drafting basic and complex work orders in G/COMM to add, upgrade, or remove copper, fiber, and pole outside plant facilities based on engineering instructions desired
Previous experience updating landbase records using GPS or state plane coordinates desired
At least 2 years drafting experience using Microstation or AutoCAD to develop and manipulate scaled drawings desired
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Familiarity with engineering CAD, costing and facilities record databases desired
Demonstrated experience interfacing with customers
Ability to interpret land records
Supervisory Responsibility:
This position does not have any supervisory responsibilities
Work Environment:
Available 24/7 for call outs, emergencies, special situations, etc.
Work may be performed at various locations under varying conditions
Physical Requirements:
Must be able to lift, carry, set up, take down, climb ladders
