Job Description:

The Department of Administrative Services - State Building Division is looking for someone who would enjoy working with our fantastic crew to upkeep and maintain a State-owned facility in Omaha. This position performs a variety of tasks beyond basic facility maintenance including skilled construction, installation, alteration, fabrication, maintenance, and repair work in one or more building trades and/or equipment maintenance activities. The Specialist works individually or as a member of a work crew, exercising a substantial degree of independence in planning and organizing their own work and performs related work as assigned.



Job duties



Skilled patching and painting work on interiors and exteriors of buildings. Performs proficient carpentry work by constructing, altering, maintaining, and repairing buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, and walls. Performs skilled plumbing work by installing, altering, maintaining, and repairing a variety of plumbing fixtures such as sinks, lavatories, toilets, etc. Installs, alters, maintains, and repairs laundry equipment, kitchen equipment, sterilization equipment, steam plant equipment and other feed lines. Repairs fire protection sprinkler systems, adjust and repairs steam pumps and regulators, water pumps and heaters. Maintains boilers, chillers, cooling towers, and heat pumps. Performs skilled electrical work by installing, altering, maintaining, and repairing wiring systems, appliances, and machinery. Installs, maintains, and repairs specialized electrical equipment such as refrigeration units, dishwashers, water heaters or other appliances. Maintains, oils and cleans electrical motors and generators. Does other electrical and limited mechanical work in repairing and replacing parts. Replaces, repairs, and rebuilds locks, electronic/electrical locks. Perform outside tasks including snow removal. Other duties as assigned within the scope of the classification.



Qualifications



REQUIREMENTS:


Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.


PREFERRED:


HVAC, electrical, and plumbing installation and repairs.


OTHER:


This position requires some travel. As such, the incumbent must be able to present a valid driver's license or another form of reliable transportation.


Regular and reliable attendance is required. Some work after hours and weekends. On call rotation.
