The primary responsibility is to drive efficient daily production operations as needed to achieve & maintain on-time production, product quality standards, low waste, and operational safety.
The Associate Manager, Packaging is an exempt position assigned to perform all day to day post press related packaging tasks that may include, but are not limited to: production & staff scheduling; ensuring hourly staff adhere to all polices, administer disciplinary actions as needed, appraising employee productivity, interviewing and selecting employees, training staff, specified reporting and ensuring productivity goals are met, product sequencing and configuring packages, and delivery dock oversight. Supervision of product staging; equipment set-up; and advanced operation. Additional duties may include packaging operator training, development and reviews. Also managing maintenance; managing inventory of strap, bottom wrap, consumable parts & supplies.
Packaging Department Responsibilities:
Production scheduling

Generate packaging reports & web portal data entry
Packaging Operator training, development & performance reviews
Shift make ready: Verification of preprint insertion schedules & zoning; product staging; coordinating packaging center and/or specific workstation resources; communication with press, distribution and other departments as required
Efficient operation of preprint management systems and related reporting.
General packaging maintenance including but not limited to: scheduled routine maintenance, troubleshooting maintenance, equipment blowdown, clean and organized work areas, and packaging materials disposal.
Safety:
Ensures staff always works in a safe manner, and consistently utilize required safety equipment.
Complete required annual OSHA safety training programs: Lockout/Tagout, Hazardous Communications, Personal Protective Equipment, Hearing Conservation, Blood Borne Pathogens, Forklift.
Ensure all machine safety-guards are installed, functioning properly, and in use.
Maintains safe and neat housekeeping and organized work spaces
Promote top-of-mind safety awareness
Immediately report all operational concerns and/or potential safety hazards to packaging management.
Immediately report all injuries and/or near misses to the packaging management.
Communications:
Communicates directly with employees while supervising the shift operation of 15 to 45 employees
Provide timely & accurate information to management as required
Immediately report equipment issues
Communicate scheduling requirements to peer supervisors and/or packaging management
Education/Certification Requirements:
High school diploma or GED equivalent. Associate / Bachelor operation or business management degree preferred or equivalent.
Experience Required or Preferred:
Previous packaging equipment operator experience
Minimum two years' supervisor/manager experience operating similar equipment
SLS Inserter experience preferred
Specialized Knowledge Required or Preferred:
Lean production / Worksmart fundamentals preferred
Burt experience is preferred.
