Compensation Amount:

16.50 USD HourlyUnder the direction of the Resident Services Director, this position will provide daily ADL's, assist with vital signs, weights, feedings, activities companionship and one on one caregiving. Oversees staff to ensure resident care, monitoring and appropriate interaction. Provides constant assessment of residents to assure safety within the environment. Also, assist with residents needs including keeping rooms clean & organized.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Passes medication and gives treatments per the physician's orders and in accordance with facility policy.

  • Responsible for documentation in the MAR immediately after administration of each medication.

  • *Note - pre-pouring of medications is not permitted.*

  • Responsible for notifying charge nurse of medications needing to be refilled and works with pharmacy to refill medications.

  • Ensures proper medication documentation.

  • Responsible for maintaining a clean and organized medication cart and medication room.

  • Conduct Med Tech to Med Tech or Med Tech to LVN narcotic count at the beginning and end of each shift.

  • Compare and maintain MAR with centrally stored medication list and physician orders to ensure accuracy.

  • In addition to Med-tech duties you will also be responsible for:

  • Assists residents with activities of daily living (ADL) as listed on the residents Service Plan.

  • Responds immediately to resident requests.

  • Aids with elimination needs of residents by: providing care for the incontinent resident, including the proper use of incontinent briefs; reinforcing bowel and bladder training; assisting residents with toileting, including the use of urinals, commodes and toilet seat extensions.

  • Provides safe transfers, positioning and turning of clients using effective body mechanics.

  • Encourage residents to participate in the planning, preparation, conduct, cleanup, and critique of planned activities.

  • Assist residents in a variety of social events/outings to provide a vibrant and activity community life for the residents.

  • Assist with all recreational activities including but not limited to: Hand massage or lotion application, outings, beauty time, walks, exercise, group time, karaoke, ball toss and other activities.

  • Reports any needed repairs of community-owned property to the Director of Maintenance.

  • Reports any suspicion or evidence of elder abuse, mistreatment or neglect as outlined in Personnel Policies.

  • Intervenes in situations involving unsafe or inadequate care and reports immediately to the Director of Resident Care or Resident Care LVN.

  • Promptly answers emergency call system, telephone and paging systems.

  • Participates in all scheduled team member meetings as requested.

  • Participates in voluntary and mandatory on-going education and in-service training.

  • Possesses sufficient computer familiarity to be able to print shift task sheet, enter resident notes by typing on the keyboard, and respond to and send internal email.

  • Uses effectively to resident behavior. Uses supportive communication in resident interactions including effective communication skills with residents who have sensory deficits.

  • Observes and reports resident physical and emotional condition changes, using appropriate terminology and abbreviations.

  • Applies non-sterile bandages/dressings and applies anti-embolism stockings (TED hose).

  • Demonstrates good practice of infection control principles by understanding the infections process and modes of disease transmission, and by using appropriate hand washing techniques.

  • Cares for cognitively impaired residents by: using techniques for addressing the unique needs and behaviors of individuals with dementia; communicates effectively with cognitively impaired residents; communicates understanding of the behavior of cognitively impaired residents; responds appropriately to the behavior of cognitively impaired residents; uses interventions to reduce the effects of cognitive impairments.

  • Demonstrates understanding and support of Resident Rights by: providing for resident privacy;

  • Maintaining resident confidentiality; promotes the residents right to make personal choices to accommodate needs; reinforces behavior consistent dignity; assists resident to participate in activities.

  • Maintains a safe environment by: keeping the community safe, clean and comfortable; recognizing environmental safety hazards, understands the methods to prevent on-the-job accidents and injuries; using usage practices when 02 is in use; identifying and following the community's disaster plans; can describe and follow the community's fire procedure, including the operation of fire extinguishers and ways to prevent fires; planning for the safe use and maintenance of equipment; practicing good infection control procedures.

  • Provides basic emergency care as determined by the emergency needs of the residents by providing basic first aid.

  • Supports the mental health and social service needs of residents by: observing and reporting mental status and behavior changes; modifies own behavior in response to resident behavior; facilitates the resident's expression of needs and provides supportive communication; assists and instructs resident to be independent in the activities of daily living; uses resident's family as a sources of resident support.

  • Performs and completes assignments within established procedures and guidelines.

  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the Director of Resident Care, Resident Care LVN or resident Care Coordinator.


SKILL AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS



  • Be at least 18 years of age with a valid High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

  • Two (2) years or more years of experience working in the field of dementia care is preferred. Two (2) or more years of experience working in the field of assisted living is preferred. Successful completion of the Medication Aide training with a score of 80% or higher. Must meet qualifications as required by the Department of Social Services for a RCFE Community.

  • Must be able to pass a reading/writing test and understand and communicated effectively in English.

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, residents, families, co-workers, medical providers, and the public.

  • Mathematics Skills

  • Able to perform multiple tasks under pressure, identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner; listens to other and solves conflicts, speaks clearly and persuasively, demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; and meets integrity standards of the Company.

  • This position is expected to exercise initiative performing the assigned tasks and delegated responsibilities. The employee is expected to solve problems by exercising sound decision-making and accurate judgement.

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding and carry out oral or written instructions. Ability to define problems, collect information and other date, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete as well as abstract variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instruction furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Internet search engines, etc.

  • Requires a thorough working knowledge and understanding of practice, procedures and policies pertaining to Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly and current California Medication Regulations. Ability to adhere to Company standards. Must possess effective communication and interpersonal skills; strong organization skills with an ability to plan, prioritize, and execute tasks in an efficient manner without sacrificing quality and accuracy; ability to interface effectively with co-workers, medical providers, customers and families, and general public; and a demonstrate a pleasant and professional demeanor.


PHYSICAL, MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL REQUIREMENTS



  • Requires travel of approximately 0%-10%.

  • Must be able to see, hear, and use hands, fingers and arms when performing majority of assigned tasks and job duties.

  • The employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, and stoop, squat, kneel, crouch, climb, grip, reach, push and pull.

  • Must be able to lift and/or move more than 50 pounds, regularly.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

  • The employee is required to work in an environment consistent with Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, and the noise level is usually quiet to moderate.

  • The job requires employee to have fine motor skills and dexterity in using telephone, handheld ratio, copier, fax machine, medical equipment, computer keyboard, mouse and other standard office.
