Harness Engineer




Sterling Heights, MI




Contract Position

Responsibilities:



  • Lead the development and documentation of component and subsystem requirements for the electrical harness system.

  • Design electrical wiring harness BOM to include component selection for connectors, backshells, sleeving, cables, braiding, sealants, boots, transitions, etc.

  • Develop harness components to meet key performance and timing targets by working collaboratively with Product Engineering, EMC, Systems Engineering, Packaging Analysis, Design Services, Planning, and Program teams.

  • Determin harness layout through vehicle and branch points for multi-branch harnesses

  • Design to environmental requirements for temperature, shock, vibration, submergence and exposure to harsh chemicals

  • Create and design drawings for harnesses in Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, working specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology

  • Work with designers and physical architects to route harnesses (moved to primary task, removed and changed some text here to try to reduce number of CAD designers applying)

  • Coordinate the harness design execution to support multiple products.

  • Harness schematic maturity, harness routings, harness drawings, harness installations, harness interconnects, and harness electrical wiring diagrams.

  • Track of harness design progress and presenting to key stakeholders.

  • Ensure the harness design and interfaces are defined and designed in adherence to engineering standard work for the purpose of on-time high quality delivery.

  • Lead and support continuous process improvement, best practices, lessons learned, and quality improvement initiatives.

  • Provide technical leadership ensuring issue resolution and appropriate technical direction for artifacts of responsibility.

  • Train, coach, mentor other team members in areas of strong competency.

  • Work with systems engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect.

  • Verify circuit breaker setting, contact size, and connections to meet power requirements

  • Work with digital systems to process changes, redline drawings, identify root causes, and develop preventative measures

  • Support build of vehicles for wiring support

  • Support build of prototype and production builds of harnesses

  • Work with systems engineers to define whole vehicle pin-level interconnect


Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering

  • Ability to Obtain Security Clearance if Necessary

  • 5+ years of related experience

  • Ability to balance cost/schedule/technical priorities.

  • Occasional overtime and weekend hours may be required to complete critical tasks.

  • Experience with Microsoft Visio desirable.

  • Experience with Capital Harness System (CHS) (aka Mentor Graphics) software, specifically in Harness XC, Capital Logic and Capital Topology is desirable.

  • Basic proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to use Engineering Development and Test Tools.
