POSITION SUMMARY
Rhoads Industries is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist responsible for the oversight of safety for our second shift. The position is accountable for supporting all EHS activities at our sites including monitoring EHS objectives and targets, internal reporting of EHS department performance and ensuring our EHS programs, policies and procedures are implemented and sustained. The EHS Specialist will also ensure compliance with local, State and Federal regulatory requirements and support a strong safety culture that engages all employees throughout our sites. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Drive and promote a ZERO INCIDENT safety culture for all employees.
  • Support and conduct safety & health inspections by completing audits, initiating corrective actions for identified findings, assisting with closing action items, and assessing preventative measures within all site departments.
  • Apply the Company’s incident/accident prevention program. Investigate all incidents/accidents, identify root causes, and ensure corrective actions are implemented according to regulatory and site EHS requirements.
  • Support the Director of Safety, Director of Risk Management and EHS Specialists in maintaining a coordinated injury abatement program through the development, engagement, and tracking of leading and lagging indicators relevant to EHS performance.
  • Conduct safety training to include classroom and on-the-job training (OJT’s) for Rhoads Industries employees and subcontractors utilizing approved training materials. Research and suggest training content relevant to Rhoads Industries scope of work.
  • Review new work processes, customer facilities and projects, including equipment plans, to ensure proper safety and health controls have been fully considered and incorporated.
  • Verify and maintain all OSHA and other regulatory documentation to include incident/accident reports, equipment inspection reports, training records and other related safety documentation.
  • Ability to read, understand & interpret OSHA 1910, 1915  & 1926  Standards and US Army Corp of Engineers EM385 to ensure compliance with present and future OSHA laws, rules, regulations, standards, and policies.
  • Serve as a member of the Rhoads Industries Safety Committee.
  • Maintain confidentiality with all investigations and medical records.
  • Able to take instruction, display knowledge of the work being performed and be able to retain and apply skills taught.
  • Liaise with Rhoads Industries contracted Occupational Medicine Services Provider with all medical matters to assure Rhoads Industries CEO and Business Line Managers are aware of the status of all OCCMED matters that affect the employees assigned to their Business Line.
  • Make suggestions and recommendations to project supervisors to enhance our safety culture.
  • Plan the direction, oversight, control, and execution of safety measures to ensure industrial hygiene and other related tasks are performed safely to minimize the exposure of hazards to site personnel.
  • Champion and lead projects designed to improve our EHS program in conjunction with reducing risks to achieve Rhoads Industries business sustainability objectives.
EDUCATION:  
  • Preferred:  Associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field of study from an accredited college or university or 3 to 5 years’ experience as an EHS Specialist.
 REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Due to the sensitivity and nature of this position, and as a condition of continued employment, you must be a United States Citizen (Non-Dual Citizen) with the ability to pass the US Navy badging process upon hire.
  • Must possess a valid driver license with and MVR that meets Rhoads Industries’ insurance provider requirements.
  • OSHA 30 Hr. Construction card.
  • EMT or First Aid, CPR, AED Certification
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to give effective direction.
  • OSHA and Risk Management experience
  • Ability to evaluate, analyze, communicate, and discuss OSHA issues effectively with Rhoads Industries Director of Risk Management, Director of Safety, craft personnel and EHS Specialists.
  • Willingness to learn to interpret job safety requirements based on bid specifications.
  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to handle multiple safety responsibilities in an efficient manner.
  • Experience and ability to contribute to a team environment.
 PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • The performance of this position involves exposure to construction or industrial areas where the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, hard hats and hearing protection is required.
  • Must be able to work in a variety of physical conditions including sitting, standing, walking, and driving an automobile.
  • May require walking and standing on irregular, uneven surfaces in an industrial setting including climbing & descending ladders and ship stairways, and exposure to increased heights. Must be capable and able to enter confined spaces.
