Job Description:


Basic Job Functions:




The Safety/Environmental Coordinator will work to promote and enhance the safety and environmental processes. This person will be responsible for developing, organizing, leading, and maintaining the records of safety and environmental training. Other responsibilities include: co-authoring safety/operating and environmental procedures; auditing plant conditions and teammate actions; compiling, analyzing and reporting safety and environmental metrics; ensuring the division is in compliance with federal guidelines; participating in corporate initiatives. In addition, this person will work with outside auditors and government inspectors as necessary.


Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.




Minimum Qualifications:





  • 4-year college degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related discipline OR 5 years of safety related experience in an industrial environment

  • Ability to be on call 24/7 and travel as required






  • Detailed Selection Criteria:






  • Environmental: Promotes environmental stewardship while maintaining compliance in all areas of the site though conformance with Nucor's environmental program. This includes reviewing and implementing environmental technical standards and policies.


  • Communication Skills: The ability to give full attention to what others are saying and communicating information so that others will understand.


  • Teamwork: Working as part of a coordinated effort with others to achieve a common goal.


  • Leadership Presence and Courage: Willingness and confidence to have immediate and direct conversations on critical alignment issues such as teamwork, building relationships, initiating, and supporting change, and production process issues that arise. This includes the willingness to face adversity and conflict head on.


  • Problem Solving & Judgement/Decision Making: Identifying problems and analyzing or reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options in order to choose the most appropriate solution.


  • Attention to Detail: Thorough in accomplishing tasks, no matter how small they may be, and taking care to make sure that expectations are met.






  • Preferences:





  • Experience as a safety or environmental coordinator

  • Safety/Emergency services certification

  • OSHA and VPP experience
