The Department of Languages & Global Studies (LGS) invites applications for a Teaching Assistant Professor of French. This is a 9-month non-tenure track position contingent upon availability of funding.

The successful candidate will contribute to French and Global Studies through teaching, and service to the program, department, college, university, and community. We are seeking a generalist in French literature and culture; the area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates who specialize in a period prior to the twentieth century. The successful candidate will help grow our entire program, especially our first-year French language sequences, contribute to curricular development and assessment, and enhance ongoing recruitment and retention strategies for the major and minor. The standard course load is 4/3. The successful candidate will be assigned 93% effort to teach beginning language courses and topics courses on all levels of instruction and 7% effort to engage in service and community outreach. • Native or near-native fluency in French and English


• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively French language and content courses, embrace new
  pedagogies, and inspire students


• Excellent written and oral communication skills in French and English


• Ability to work with and engage diverse students and colleagues

• Earned M.A. in French language, literature, and cultural studies by August 15, 2024


• Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

• Record of excellence in teaching demonstrated through teaching evaluations and statement of
  teaching philosophy


• Experience teaching college-level French language courses


• Experience building and teaching online courses


• Experience with community outreach and recruitment
