Job Description:


Job Title: Culinary Arts Laboratory Technician



Campus Location: WSCC-Sevier County Campus (Employees are assigned to a "home" location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)



Job Purpose: The overall purpose of this job is to provide direct support to the culinary program through supportive assistance of culinary labs, on-site culinary events, ongoing preventative maintenance of all culinary-related equipment, and overall management and care of the mobile learning lab and associated events. This position works with a diverse population of students in culinary-related settings, including culinary classes, support of culinary operations manager duties (Bistro), all catered events and set-ups, and all mobile learning lab (food truck) affiliated events.



Essential Job Functions:



  • Responsible for maintaining all equipment through routine preventative maintenance, including care and maintenance of the mobile lab, utilizing it at off-site events, and managing the use of the mobile kitchen at on-site and off-site events.

  • Provide support for all culinary arts classes and events.

  • Receive all deliveries and maintain/organize inventory; coordinate ordering needs with the department. Manages linen laundering, storage, and inventory.

  • Coordinates all event set-ups and provides support during events as needed, as well as coordinating the work schedule with outside contractors when needed with regard to activities related to the culinary department.

  • Assist with student recruitment and community relations.

  • May perform other duties as assigned.



Required Qualifications:



  • High school diploma.


  • Minimum of two years' experience in culinary arts or related field.


  • General knowledge of kitchen equipment and maintenance.


  • Understanding and acceptance of the comprehensive community college philosophy.


  • Ability to drive a Ford F59 Food Truck Step-Van or equivalent proficiently and provide oversight in ensuring preventative maintenance procedures are done as required.


  • General maintenance skills

Leadership & Supervisory: This position provides additional oversight and support to the Culinary Operations Manager for work-study students and volunteers.



Environment & Working Conditions: This position operates primarily in a kitchen, which could experience temperature fluctuations, noise, and some potential hazards. Mishandling of equipment could lead to cuts or burns from kitchen equipment. Chemicals used for cleaning could also result in skin irritation.



Physical Demands (including requirements for travel or working nights/weekends/holidays):



  • Knowledge of and ability to use culinary arts equipment, computers, and catering set-ups.

  • Heavy lifting of up to 50 pounds may be expected.

  • Ability to work in a tempered manner in an often fast-paced and stressful kitchen environment.
