Your Role: Senior Assistant General Counsel, Business Development

The Senior Assistant General Counsel, Business Development is a role in Elanco’s global legal organization, responsible for working closely with senior leaders and Business Development teams across the globe including by supporting domestic and international M&A, complex licensing and distribution agreements, and related transactions. 

Your Responsibilities:


  • Work with business development leadership to execute worldwide asset divestitures, partnerships, and corporate transactions aligned with business strategies, managing legal risk positions.


  • Contribute to cross-functional deal teams by conducting legal due diligence, negotiating key terms, drafting agreements, ensuring regulatory compliance, and overseeing post-closing integration.


  • Drive professional development through training initiatives for Elanco’s legal and business development teams, integrating current corporate and transactional law insights.


  • Assist in selecting and engaging outside counsel for complex legal and regulatory matters.


  • Collaborate across legal and business teams to mitigate risk, optimize service levels, and streamline external counsel usage, leveraging legal expertise to support Elanco’s strategic goals.


What You Need to Succeed (minimum qualifications):


  • Education: Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school


  • Required Experience: At least eight (8) years of corporate law experience within a large, global corporation or major law firm; member of at least one state bar in good standing.


  • Top Two Skills: Significant experience drafting, negotiating, and successfully executing complex corporate transactions in a publicly-traded corporation; familiarity with specialized subjects that arise in transactional matters, including securities laws, tax, IP, antitrust, employment, data privacy, regulatory and technology.
