Aggregate Quality Control Technician at Martin Marietta Materials in Maple Grove, Minnesota

Job Description:

The Quality Control Technician is responsible for sampling and performing routine laboratory testing of aggregate materials. Prescribed standards are used to determine the physical characteristics of the aggregate for quality control purposes and determine conformity to specifications. This position reports to the Quality Control Manager. This position will primarily support our Maple Grove location and will also assist at other locations as needed.



Essential Functions



  • Set up, adjust, and operate laboratory equipment and instruments such as mechanical shakers, scales, ovens, and other lab equipment required.

  • Work with industrial equipment and machinery to obtain material samples from production facilities such as conveyors, stockpiles and/or customer sites.

  • Record and maintain test results on Excel spreadsheets and/or standardized forms.

  • Report and communicate test results internally and externally (Plant Managers, Dept of Transportation, customers, and others as required).

  • Clean, maintain, and calibrate laboratory equipment.

  • Inspect stockpiles for proper construction.

  • Assist in investigating and resolving customer technical problems.

Education and Experience



  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical degree preferred.

  • State certified for aggregate field and laboratory testing in MN preferred but not required

  • (Company will train); ability to obtain state certification required.

  • Experience in quality control in an aggregate or construction environment preferred.




Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • A valid, unrestricted driver's license with clean driving record

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

  • Proficient in MS Office and computer skills

  • Must have basic math skills

  • Proactive in safety

  • Works well independently as well as in a team environment




Work Environment



This is a full-time seasonal position that may require long hours and weekend work. This job operates 100% of the time in a surface mine setting.



Physical Demands



While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
