Job Description:

Provides assistance to a research staff by collecting data, keeping records, conducting literature searches, technical research, analyzing data, and preparing reports with minimal supervision. The RA will prepare buffers and reagents, conduct supervised research experiments, and collect data for the PI. In addition, they will maintain the lab, autoclave, clean labware, and ensure proper disposal of trash. The presence of an RA is necessary to effectively conduct research in the lab.


Duties:



  • Prepare Buffers and reagents; culture medium, phosphate buffered saline.

  • Conduct experiments: cell culture and assist in animal model development, test treatments, and collect data.

  • Maintain lab; arrange chemicals, solvents, clean glass/labware, equipment calibration, maintain inventory, handling and disposal of trash. 

  • Compliance; lab inspections, follow up, and corrective actions as per recommendations from the inspecting body. 

  • As needed; assist other members of the lab on a need basis. 

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, or Physical Science or related field, AND:



  • 12 months research laboratory experience.


Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months equivalent experience in lieu of the Bachelor's Degree for a total of 60 months research experience.


Skills:



  • Working knowledge of how to safely handle and dispose of biohazardous materials or chemicals following Federal, State, and University regulations and guidelines.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Ability to analyze data and keep records.

  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.


Advertised Physical Requirements:




  • Physical: Standing for prolonged periods. Manual dexterity. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Reaching, bending, and stooping.


  • Environmental: Laboratory Environment. Exposure to biohazardous materials, chemicals, odors, and or carcinogens.
