Director of Operations

Naples United Church of Christ is seeking a dedicated, organized, self-motivated, thoughtful, process-driven, people-savvy professional with excellent problem-solving skills to fill the position of Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is responsible to the Senior Minister, and he/she will serve the church in the following four areas: office operations management, facility management, church program management, and human resources management. The position will begin August 15th, 2024.

Office Operations Management:

  • Supervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the church’s programmatic and business life.
  • Provide organizational and tactical support (working in conjunction with other staff) to all the church’s ministries including the ministry of the Bargain Box Thrift Store
  • Support and resource the Clergy Team and Worship Team as directed by the Senior Minister
  • Support and resource, as needed, church officers and committee chairs.
  • Provide planning and organizational support to all events hosted on NUCC’s campus
  • Obtain operational results in accordance with all deadlines
  • Ensure accuracy related to the church’s communications, publications, and calendar of events
  • Provide tactical support as requested by the Moderator for all congregational meetings
  • Supervise the church’s support staff with coaching and mentoring as needed
  • Serve as staff liaison to assigned boards and committees as directed by the Senior Minister
  • Ensure adherence to all policies of the church (employee manual, safe-church policy, financial procedures, etc.) and recommend additional policies where appropriate for risk management or otherwise
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the church’s internal office communications and the church’s database (Realm)

 

 

 

 

 

Campus Facilities Management:

  • Manage and direct all maintenance and custodial tasks as Naples UCC, including ongoing repairs, scheduling maintenance, and special capital projects as requested.
  • Manage documents including, but not limited to:

+ 501(c)(3) Federal and State tax exemptions

+ appraisal studies

+ historical documents and essential records, claims, and updates for all insurance contracts (Property, Liability, Fine Arts, Special Coverages, Flood, Worker’s Compensation, etc.)

+ Documents related to As-Builts, renovations, campus upgrades, 2019 Reserve Study

+ Certificate of insurance records from vendors and contractors

+ Contract upgrades on all office equipment

  • When facilities issues arise that need Trustee approval, proactively investigate the problem, deploy custodial staff, obtain bids when necessary, and develop a solution or solutions to present to the Trustees that will rectify the issue.
  • Manage all rental and facility use, with appropriate review and reporting to lay leaders.
  • Review reserve study quarterly with Board of Trustees and annually with the Executive Committee and recommend updating when appropriate.
  • Manage all insurance needs of the church including Workers Comp, claims… Review any/all changes and/or issues with the Board of Trustees and the Executive Committee.
  • Manage all required corporate filings with the Florida Secretary of State, including the annual report and any change of registered agent or other required filings and for maintaining records of our corporate filings and other corporate records, like bylaws, minutes, etc.
  • Ensure proper state and federal tax filings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Church Programming Management:

  • Ensure accuracy and oversight of the church master calendar.
  • In collaboration with appropriate staff, ensure that the leads for each church program are resourced with the materials and staff support that they require.
  • Schedule nursery and additional childcare staff as appropriate.
  • In collaboration with communications staff, ensure that NUCC programs are publicized accurately and appropriately.
  • Submit annual UCC data as requested.
  • Other church programming duties as assigned by the Senior Minister.

Human Resources Management:

  • Oversee and implement all areas of the church’s human resources initiatives.
  • Oversee all efforts to hire new employees to fill open positions: job postings, candidate recruitment, and initial interviewing. Finalist candidates for all positions will be interviewed alongside the Senior Minister.
  • Maintain(accurately) all employee files and records.
  • Conduct confidential background checks for employees and volunteers in accordance with all church policies.
  • Oversee the employee review process as outlined in the employee manual, hiring (in collaboration with the Senior Minister)
  • Oversee and implement new employee orientation and employee training when necessary.
  • Supervise/manage the following staff positions: Accountant, Receptionist and Membership Coordinator, Nursery Coordinator, Communications Specialist, All Maintenance and Custodial Staff, Bargain Box Manager, Office Assistant, Food Service Coordinator, and other staff as assigned by the Senior Minister

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Qualifications:

  • At least five years of professional experience, including managing the administration of a high- growth organization
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Demonstrated experience in operations management, facility management, and human resources
  • Demonstrated resourcefulness in setting priorities and proposing new ways of creating efficiencies
  • Technological proficiency
  • Flexible self-starter with ability to multitask while also being highly detail oriented
  • Experience creating and driving the analytic framework for planning and managing organizational change in a highly fluid and dynamic organization
  • Ability to relate to a wide breadth of people and backgrounds
  • Commitment to the core values and inclusive theology of Naples UCC
  • Self-reflective with high emotional intelligence

Compensation and Terms of Employment:

  • Salary: TBD

. The position’s hours will be Monday-Friday from 8:30 to 4:30 and at other times as needed (occasional evening meetings and occasional weekend commitments).
