The Controller is a pivotal figure in an organization, bridging the gap between the finance team and senior management. Reporting to the CEO, the Controller ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, oversees the accounting department, and enforces robust internal controls. They play a strategic role by providing critical financial insights that inform decision-making, budgeting, and forecasting. The Controller also ensures compliance with relevant regulations and coordinates external audits. Their leadership in managing financial operations and their ability to communicate complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders are essential for the organization's financial stability and strategic planning.
Skill set and educational requirements
The Controller must possess the following skill set and educational background:
Minimum of four years of experience in a controller or other accounting type of role
At least four years of experience in QuickBooks (cloud-based)
Preferred to hold a bachelor's degree in accounting
Thorough understanding of Cash Flow, Profit and Loss Reports and Balance sheet
Proficient in Office Suites (Microsoft or Google), budgeting software, CRM (client resource management) tools, and/or current accounting system(s)
Proven ability to design and implement systems in an organization
Possess excellent oral and written communication skills
Responsibilities
Thoroughly understands, implements, and ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
Thoroughly familiar with applicable procedures for departments with which his/her department interacts
Developing, implementing, and maintaining KPI reporting and other strategic plans as requested by the CEO and other stakeholders
Assists in the development, implementation, and achievement of the company annual budgeting goals
Supervises/oversees all accounting functions to include Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Liability, Job Costing, etc.
Supervises and oversees all financial administrative functions
Supervises compliance with and records local, state, and federal tax requirements and payments
Oversees and ensures that all bookkeeping tasks are completed accurately and on schedule
Oversees the maintenance and updating of all personnel payroll records
Ensures that job cost reports are completed on a timely basis and disseminated appropriately
Coordinates with company CPA to prepare financials and taxes at year end
Reviews and renews company insurance and bonding policies annually
Coordinates with the bank regarding all bank matters (line of credit, financing of vehicles and equipment, credit card processing, payroll processing, etc.)
Projects cash flow needs and prepares cash flow budgets
Hires, fires, trains, evaluates, and supervises all staff under his/her supervision
Keeps CEO informed and current regarding all pertinent details in his/her department
Salary and Benefits Package

You should communicate with your direct report if you feel you are unable to complete certain tasks so he or she can help guide you to be successful in your role.
Working Conditions
This is an in-person role that requires Monday through Friday at the Outdoor Living facility in Valdosta, GA for 45+ hours/week. From their dedicated office, this person will be using a computer and phone for long periods of time. They will be sitting for a majority of their time in the office. They must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
