Job Description:

Working with a Transit organization local to Newark, NJ and they are seeking a PMP Certified Project Manager with IoT experience. This is a long term contract opportunity and must be good with going onsite in a hybrid model.

Seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee and manage IT Innovation's recently funded Connected Assets project that will provide several strategic and interconnected data capabilities.

The ideal candidate will have a strong IT project management background, with significant experience in IoT/ Hardware management, software development lifecycle management, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a deep understanding of the transit industry.

With guidance from the Deputy CTO - Head of Innovation and direct supervision by the Innovation Lead Design Engineer, the candidate will plan, execute, and deliver the project within the scope, budget, and timeline parameters. With support from technical experts, and in partnership with Operating Agencies, Procurement, and Capital Planning, candidate will (1) translate currently deployed proof-of-concept architecture into vendor agnostic requirements, (2) facilitate the release of an RFP, (3) coordinate selection of vendors, and (4) oversee and manage the implementation of the project.

Roles and Responsibilities:

1. Planning
• Lead translation of built architecture into requirements.
• Assist in project scope definition, objectives, and success criteria in alignment with departmental strategic goals.
• Lead and manage end-to-end project, ensuring plan adherence, successful delivery within defined scope, budget, resources, milestones, and timeline.
• Identify, assess, manage, and prioritize potential risks and corresponding mitigation strategies.
• Ensure stakeholder's interests and ensure their alignment/visibility with/to the project goals.

2. Management
• Lead a cross-functional project team (IT professionals, engineers, designers, and subject matter experts.
• Ensure task/expectation/responsibility goal alignment.
• Foster a collaborative/nurturing environment that supports innovation/creativity.
• Develop/manage the budget and track expenditures within financial/regulatory constraints.
• Resource/personnel allocation and optimization to ensure the project timeline.
• Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.

3. Stakeholder/cross-departmental communication
• Clear and open cross-departmental communication with stakeholders, including providing project updates, status reports/progress presentations, addressing concerns, managing expectations, and ensuring stakeholder engagement.

4. Project Execution
• Oversee the day-to-day task execution, resolve conflicts, and ensure plan/timeline adherence. Monitor risks and issues/dependencies and implement mitigation strategies.
• Monitor progress milestones and adjust as necessary to stay on track.

5. Quality Assurance
• Define and communicate quality standards and ensure deliverables meet these standards.
• Implement testing and quality control processes to validate the functionality/reliability.
• Conduct reviews/audits to ensure best practice adherence.

6. Documentation
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation, including plans, reports, and communications.

7. Post-Project Evaluation
• Conduct post-project reviews during the closeout process to evaluate success against predefined objectives.
• Identify lessons learned and potential improvements and capture stakeholder and team feedback.
• Professional experience in Transportation, Engineering and ITS (Intelligent Transportation Systems). Professional Engineer (P. Eng // PE) certification a plus.
• Proven experience as a Project Manager in the transit industry, specifically in IT project management.
• PMP certification or equivalent experience.
• Understanding of project management methodologies, tools, and techniques.
• History managing IoT intensive projects that integrated hardware and software across multiple physical locations.
• Experience with transit-specific software and systems is a plus.
• Demonstrated ability to work in matrixed organizations.
• Cloud, DevOps Certifications a plus.
• Transit systems, technologies, and industry trend knowledge.
• Strong analytical/problem-solving skills and the ability to deliver beyond expectations.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
• Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire cross-functional teams.
