Financial Institutions Investment Banking Coverage

This position is a 1st or 2nd Year Associate role with the Financial Institutions investment banking coverage team. In this role you will support deal origination and transaction execution within FIG's sectors, comprising Specialty Finance, Asset Management, Insurance, Market Structure (broker / dealers, FinTech, exchanges, etc.), and Banks. FIG has offices in New York and Charlotte, NC. This position can be located in either location.

Investment Banking Associates are an integral part of the Investment Banking team. They are directly involved in the design, origination, structuring and execution of investment banking products and services for existing and prospective clients. Associates participate in client meetings, due diligence visits and other client interactions during which they gain exposure to key executives and senior bankers. The Associate provides these services as part of a team consisting of Analysts, Vice Presidents, Directors, and Managing Directors.

In this role, you will:
  • Participate in analyzing companies, develop strategies for clients, pulling market and industry research, and completing a trading simulation within Investment Banking Program
  • Review strategies for clients, build detailed financial models, analyze market data, and prepare client presentations related to low-to-medium risk tasks and deliverables
  • Receive direction from a manager and exercise independent judgment while developing understanding of compliance and risk management requirements for the supported area
  • Collaborate and consult with peers, colleagues, and managers to resolve issues and achieve goals
  • Interact with clients
  • Create detailed financial models used for valuation (DCF, LBO, merger plans, accretion/dilution, comparable company and transaction analysis)
  • Prepare marketing documents, including pitch materials, confidential offering memoranda, management presentations, fairness opinions and board presentations.
  • Conduct extensive financial and industry due diligence to evaluate the risk/return parameters of a transaction.
  • Support senior bankers in their relationship management responsibilities, including interaction with current and prospective clients.
Required Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of Investment Banking Program experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
Desired Qualifications:
  • 2+ years of capital markets experience
  • Experience covering Financial Institutions sectors (Asset Management, Specialty Finance, Insurance, Market Structure, and/or Depositories)
  • Ability to work effectively, as well as independently, in a team environment.
  • Strong financial modeling skills.
  • Strong organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Bachelor's Degree with academic distinction and coursework in financial accounting and corporate finance.
  • Experience in investment banking
  • Professional experience through internships, part-time or full-time work, and/or extracurricular activities.
  • Dedication to building a career in Investment Banking.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a demanding, highly focused, deadline driven, fast paced team environment, with a sense of personal accountability and urgency for achieving results
Job Expectations:
  • Registration FINRA Series 63 (or 66) must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • Registration for FINRA Series 79 must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • Registration for Securities Industry Essentials (SIE) exam must be completed within 90 days of hire date if it is not available for transfer upon hire. FINRA recognized equivalents will be accepted.
  • Ability to travel up to 5%
  • Ability to work outside of regular business hours
  • First year salary starts at $175K; Second year salary starts at $200K
