Job Overview:

The Sr. Software Product Owner is and extension of the Product Management organization and partners with one or more Product Managers to bring the product vision and strategy to the development team for execution. The Sr. Product Owner is an active member of 1 or more development (SCRUM) teams and represents the customer as a Subject Matter Expert (SME), to ensure that the customer's view is well represented. The Sr. Product Owner therefor takes a business/functional approach but also possesses just enough technical knowledge to converse with the team as required. He/she intercepts the Epics from Product Managers and decomposes them into Features and later Stories for iterative software development and delivery. The Sr. Product Owner drives the backlog, sets the priority, and consults with Product Managers as needed to ensure alignment in the SDLC. Unlike the Product Owner, the Sr. Product Owner has enough industry, product, and practical job experience to cover this role for more than one product if required and can also mentor other Product Owners along the way.

Job Functions:
  • Responsible to manage the backlog for 1-3 teams as required, potentially across multiple products.
  • Meet regularly with Product Managers to ensure strategy and planning alignment for the product.
  • Decompose Epics into Features in Azure DevOps that are clear and digestible within the defined time boundaries.
  • Groom Features to ensure proper functional and non-functional acceptance criteria, as well as other required data points such as clear title and description.
  • Create and attach supporting artifacts and diagrams on requirements to ensure clarity for the team.
  • Work very closely with other SCRUM team members to promote thoroughness and to ensure proper scope, so that everyone involved is clear on what needs to be built.
  • Work with QA to lead software demonstrations and ensure that product expectations are met.
  • Prepare and lead demos with other stakeholders or customers as required.
  • Solicit product feedback and drive continuous improvement in the product.
  • Partner with architecture to gain a clear understanding of how and why the product should be designed, influencing a customer-centered approach.
  • Review and align with QA on test strategies to ensure proper end-to-end coverage.
  • Review and sign-off on product level documentation from the Technical Writers.
  • Participate in daily and weekly SCRUM ceremonies.
  • Ensure that your team's Azure DevOps artifacts are updated with the correct data points, states, and assignment, so that reports and KPIs are always up to date and accurate.
  • Build a product that is configured to order, abstracting features and functions so that they are not customer specific, but rather serve the broader market.
  • Work with UX and others to create an intuitive and eazy to use experience for our customers.
  • Innovate on new ideas and better ways to solve customer problems in the product.
  • Explicit focus on Quality in all our product endeavors.
  • Mentor and guide other Product Owners in their work and career development.

Travel Requirements:
  • 30% overnight travel (Travel expenses paid by Bastian Solutions)

Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • Minimum 3 year of experience in a Product Owner role.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in a software development organization.
  • Minimum 2 year of experience in logistics/supply chain or related industry.
  • Ability to understand and participate in technical discussions related to software development.
