The New Jersey Attorney General's Office - Division of Highway Traffic Safety is seeking an enthusiastic individual for entry-level program monitoring for highway safety. This position will be assigned to the Trenton, NJ office. This position will be appointed to the title Program Specialist Trainee, with an initial annual salary of $48,056.98 with a potential increase to $50,229.66 with satisfactory performance after six months of training. Upon completion of the 12-month training period, candidates are eligible for automatic advancement to the Program Specialist title with a starting salary of $52,513.10. Please note, salary noted is non-negotiable, in accordance with Civil Service Commission procedures.

The Attorney General has broad oversight of the state's legal and law enforcement matters. As the head of the Department of Law & Public Safety, the Attorney General supervises a wide range of Divisions, Offices, and Commissions, consisting of over 2,800 sworn law enforcement officers, 600 attorneys, and thousands of other public servants.
ABOUT THE DIVISION:
The Division of Highway Traffic Safety (DHTS) works to prevent motor vehicle-related crashes and the resulting property damage, injuries, and fatalities on New Jersey's roadways, and is responsible for administering the federally funded State & Community Highway Safety Program.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
Under the close supervision of a Program Specialist 4 in the Division of Highway Traffic Safety (Division), Department of Law & Public Safety, will:
Assists in the development, review, implementation and monitoring of highway safety grant projects;
Assists in maximizing police department participation and reporting in statewide traffic safety campaigns;
Reviews and evaluates highway safety grant applications in relation to need, capability, and priority;
Visits, consults, and provides technical assistance to grantees concerning highway safety projects;
Monitors progress of highway safety projects and prepares interim progress, evaluation, and monitoring reports on each specific project under his/her jurisdiction to make recommendations regarding existing projects;
Provide technical support to Division grantees relating to the Division's e-grant system;
Assist in auditing of grant reimbursement requests to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations;
Performs other related duties.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or
Four (4) years of professional experience relevant to the position.
Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.
Statewide travel required for work responsibilities.
OTHER KEY FACTORS:
Applicants who do not possess the required education may substitute additional experience as indicated below on a year for-year basis with thirty (30) semester hour credits being equal to one (1) year of experience.
