We are looking for an experienced Pre-Press Specialist for our Southfield, MI office, to support our Art & Design department.
Job Summary
Prepress Specialist will be responsible for the daily supervision of the print production jobs, both in-house and external. Identifies and recommends process improvements to streamline and increase efficiency of existing programs.
Responsibilities
The Prepress Specialist is responsible for ensuring that graphic designs and content, supplied for print production, meets all necessary quality and technical standards before sending them to be printed
The Prepress Specialist will work closely with clients and internal design and account teams to instill best practice discipline and ensure efficiency across the print production process
Conduct pre-flight and advanced troubleshooting of design files for fonts, images, color and printability. Ensure all files meet requirements for the intended print and finishing including traps, overprints, knockouts, spot colors and imposition needs
Work with Art and Account to develop Request for Quotes to send out to applicable printer(s). Work with Account team to determine best quote if multiple quotes. Provide quote approvals to Printers
Communicate with the print suppliers on all print production jobs
Reconcile invoices
Review files against corporate standards and brand guidelines to ensure adherence
Correct any artwork issues or communicate changes to Art Director
Train on all current print production workflows, while continually working on improvements
Work with Art and Account departments to meet print production timelines
Release print ready files to correct printers and communicate timing for delivery of proofs and project completion
Order and keep inventory of supplies for the department
Maintain and repair all in-house print equipment. Work with outside service technicians to complete repairs, as necessary
Keep track of internal printing supplies so they can be kept in stock
Continually keep up to date with production processes and press layouts to QC any potential production problems with layouts
Set and enforce standards for file transmission, proofing, equipment calibration, and other tasks
Track and report failures in file set up for cost analysis
Qualifications
6-10 years of relevant experience in graphics and design in an advertising or design agency or internal studio, or print shop
File preparation experience for both Offset and Digital Presses
Proficient in graphics design and communication applications including Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, and other Adobe products as well as MS Office
A strong working knowledge of imposition requirements and software
Excellent typographic skills and verbal presentation skills
