Job Title: Instructional Academic Coach

Company: Star of the North Academy

Position Purpose: The Instructional Academic Coach at Star of the North Academy is pivotal in enhancing our educational framework. This role focuses on elevating teaching practices and strategies, ensuring every student achieves their highest potential. You will guide teachers to refine their instructional techniques, ensuring alignment with state standards, and fostering academic excellence that leads to marked improvements in student outcomes on assessments such as NWEA and MCA tests.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Compile an analyze individual teacher assessment results such as those from the NWEA MAP into a format so that teachers can easily use the information to plan instruction.
  • Analyze academic data to identify student learning gaps and collaborate with teachers to develop intervention strategies.
  • Build and manage an intervention team focused on addressing specific academic needs of students.
  • Compile and analyze school wide assessment results to identify teachers who can share effective practices, as well as teachers who need more support.
  • Compile resources for teachers based on their requests and in response to their needs so that they have resources that are targeted to meeting the needs of their students.
  • Oversee, monitor and support teachers in mapping state standards, pacing guides, and interim assessments so that teachers can monitor progress of students toward meeting state grade level standards.
  • Develop and support the implementation of the curriculum and professional development plans tailored to individual teacher needs.
  • Complete teacher observations with the goal of identifying effective practices to share school wide, as well as to support teachers that may need coaching support.
  • Facilitate identification of and sharing of effective practices school wide with the goal of all teachers engaged at some point in sharing effective practices.
  • Coach teachers to support their continuous improvement, confidence, and growth mindset.
  • Provide continuous formal and informal feedback to teachers, fostering a culture of professional growth and self-reflection.
  • Collaboratively work with teachers to enhance instructional methods that meet or exceed state standards.
  • Model effective teaching practices, including those aligned with the MN READ Act, and provide hands-on coaching to teachers, demonstrating rigorous, research-based, and culturally responsive teaching strategies.
  • Facilitate the development and implementation of comprehensive weekly assessments to evaluate and enhance student learning processes.
  • Oversee and ensure the integrity of student performance on standardized testing through effective management of the assessment process.
  • Maintain regular communication with families to discuss student progress and strategies for improvement.

Organization Relationships: This position reports directly to the Executive Director and involves regular interaction with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Valid MN teaching license.
  • A minimum of 5 years teaching experience, with demonstrated excellence in instructional practices.
  • At least 1 year of experience in an academic coaching or curriculum development role.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with new teachers and diverse student populations.
  • Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis and educational assessments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster relationships and encourage a collaborative working environment.
