The Commodity Specialist secures and analyzes quotations and conducts difficult negotiations with all levels of suppliers for the purchase of goods and/or services. They develop and implement commodity strategies to establish long-term sources. Serves as primary interface on all commercial matters related to suppliers.

This position is onsite Monday-Thursday at our Livonia HQ and remote on Fridays.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Lead the development and implementation of global commodity strategies for direct goods and services to derive the maximum value for the company.
  • Develop and lead material cost management initiatives.
  • Negotiate supplier contracts and make recommendations to management.
  • Collaborate with Cabinetworks Corporate and other business units on cross business unit initiatives.
  • Manage supplier performance, commercial relationships, and metrics.
  • Motivate suppliers to bring forward new and innovative technologies.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain, operations, business or related field.
  • 5 years purchasing, supply or logistics experience in a manufacturing company.
  • Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Demonstrated successful ability to build positive relationships and partnerships within department and across the organization.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to interact with internal and external customers.
  • Proven negotiations skills.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% including international.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
  • MBA
  • Prior ERP experience (Oracle, SAP).
  • Global sourcing experience with strong emphasis in Asia and South America.
  • Ability to speak Mandarin and/or Spanish.
