Compensation: $120k - $180k

Job Description
Our Hardware Engineering group is looking for a passionate engineer to lead our electrical engineering team while expanding our hardware ecosystem. The ideal candidate will have a strong track record of hardware development both as a people manager and individual contributor. We are looking for a team lead that still wants to stay connected to hardware - we are a small company and engineering managers are expected to pitch in on projects as needed.

As a senior member of our team, the Electrical Engineering Lead will be expected to help guide our standards and processes, ensure technical excellence in our designs, mentor the electrical engineering team, and work closely with their peers in other technical groups to help us achieve our goals.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the electrical engineering team - provide mentorship and guidance to new engineers, define standards and review processes, and ensure technical excellence from the group.
  • Help define product architectures and development strategies to optimize the safety, cost, performance, and time-to-market of the Emporia hardware ecosystem.
  • Collaborate with firmware, mechanical, product, and program engineering leaders to ensure teams are working closely together with aligned priorities and goals.
  • Support, from an engineering perspective, the transition from new product development into high volume manufacturing.
  • Work closely with a team of passionate engineers to ensure we develop exceptional hardware products - participate and/or lead design reviews and trades as needed, or lend a hand with testing and debug as required. We are a small team requiring a high level of collaboration and teamwork to ensure we achieve our goals.

Required Qualifications & Skills
  • 5 or more years of experience developing complex products as a power electronics engineer, electrical engineer, or related role
  • BS in electrical engineering or related field
  • Exceptionally strong foundation of expertise in the design and analysis of analog, digital, and mixed signal electrical systems
  • Familiarity with both AC and DC power system basics, including strong understanding of switching converters, inverters, and AC power distribution
  • Experience designing products for compliance with regulatory standards in fields such as consumer electronics, aviation/aerospace, medical, or similar
  • Electrical hardware lab equipment expert - hands on engineering required
  • Expertise with schematic and layout in at least one industry standard tool
  • Expertise with at least one modeling and simulation-aided analysis tool chain using components such as PLECs, Python, SPICE, SimPower, MATLAB, etc.
  • Working knowledge of renewable energy related concepts such as lithium ion batteries, solar arrays, general power conversion/regulation/distribution, and power fault protection
  • Familiar with scripting using Python, Javascript, Visual Basic, or equivalent
  • Demonstrated experience managing workload and project deliverables
  • Strong writing, interpersonal, and communication skills

Desired Qualifications & Skills
  • MS/PhD in electrical engineering or related field
  • Experience leading new engineering teams, experience working with such teams to define the processes and standards needed for future success
  • Experience designing, debugging, and manufacturing Level 2, V2x EV chargers
  • Experience designing and debugging for electrical and safety compliance standards such as FCC, CE, UL/ETL, etc.
  • Experience designing and shipping high-volume consumer productsOn-site factory experience with contract manufacturers
  • Familiarity with Altium Designer
  • Experience writing embedded software
