bitewell is seeking a DevOps Engineer to join our engineering team in Denver, CO. This role is pivotal in optimizing our infrastructure, ensuring system reliability, and streamlining our deployment processes to support the scalability and efficiency of our systems. This role is essential as we roll out our proprietary nutrition scoring algorithm & Digital Food Farmacy product to millions of members over the next 12 months. Reporting to the Head of Technology, you will work closely with both development and operational teams, leveraging our tech stack that includes PHP, React, and modern DevOps tools. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment and is passionate about building robust, secure, and scalable systems.
This role will work out of our Denver HQ on a hybrid schedule, Tuesday-Thursday in-office.
Responsibilities:
You'll help build the future of reliable, critical services, and support the rapid and sustainable growth of new features.
Collaborate with software engineers to support the operational aspects of application development and deployment, including configuration management, and environment setup.
Design, implement, and manage CI/CD processes and pipelines.
Monitor, troubleshoot, and enhance performance across all systems to ensure optimal uptime and responsiveness.
Develop automation tools to efficiently deploy, manage, and operate scalable systems.
Maintain security protocols for all aspects of the infrastructure, ensuring compliance with industry standards.
Requirements:
Minimum of 5 years' hands-on experience running production, highly available, distributed, and cloud-based services, preferably in a SaaS environment.
Proficiency with cloud services (we use Digital Ocean), container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker), and infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
Experience developing Service Level Indicators and Service Level Objectives for the above systems.
Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies.
Ability to script or code with languages such as Python, Bash, or similar.
You are able to create and maintain container images.
BS in Computer Science, Engineering, or relevant field.
Strong communication skills and enjoy working on a team that values openness, integrity, ownership, and attention to detail
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of a startup.
