Congestion Trading Analyst at Selby Jennings in Houston, Texas

Job Description:

One of our top clients, a large renewable energy developer, is in search of a Congestion Trading Analyst. This analyst will report directly to the Head of Congestion Trading. This analyst will provide macro and micro fundamentals to the team for both supply and demand and transmission bids and facility limits. This role is Hybrid but is based out of Houston.

Key Responsibilities:

• Use grid modeling software to forecast power prices and power plant economics using Dayzer
• Analyze market developments (policies, technologies, economic conditions)
• Participate in meetings and assess commercial impacts accordingly
• Provide future basis risks and future opportunities
• Provide fundamental investments for the renewable space (Supply and Demand, Transmission and Generation Outage)

Key Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.
• 2 years work experience in power markets, trading, price forecasting
• 5 years relevant work experience
• Have Congestion Market experience in MISO, SPP, OR an independent ISO
• Strong technical skills (Python, SQL, R, PROMOD, etc.)
• Strong communication skills - able to speak with trade terminology
