Job Title: Junior Process Engineer

Summary:

The Junior Process Engineer will drive manufacturing process efficiency utilizing industry best practices, with a focus on supporting Special Process (SP) activities (welding, chemical processing, precision cleaning & cleanliness verification, soldering, LPI). They will support new and existing special process accreditation efforts and continuous improvements. They will also develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods utilizing knowledge of product design intent, materials, fabrication processes, production equipment capabilities, lean and Six Sigma structured problem-solving tools.

Accountability:

The Junior Process Engineer will support the Process Engineering Group Lead in maintaining and improving existing SPs and in the development of new in-house capabilities. Through training and guidance under the Group Lead, they will be responsible for procedures to produce the most economical manufacturing methods to accomplish optimum utilization of people, machines, tooling, equipment, facilities, quality, and timely production.

Relationships:

Reporting to the Process Engineering Group Lead, the Junior Process Engineer will provide engineering solutions and technical expertise to support Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Production, and other teams relative to the design of fixtures, routings, methods, and applications prescribed. They will work with and assist QC/QA, Manufacturing Engineering and Design Engineering to solve product / manufacturing challenges, and to facilitate new product releases and existing product improvements relevant to SP applications.

Job Description: (Estimated % of time)

50%: Support in-house Special Process activities. Develop and review production documentation for SP operations.

25%: Provide input to Design Engineering groups to revise existing documents. Create new documents and update routings accordingly.

25%: Use structured problem-solving methods to analyze process performance and address opportunities to correct and improve products and manufacturing processes.

Job Duties:

Develop, review and/or approve documentation for special processes to include both in-house and vendor production.

Perform in-house self-audits for special processes and generate reports detailing any found discrepancies. Assist with customer, NADCAP, and other audit activities as needed.

Provide input on new and existing fixtures relevant to special process applications.

Conduct continuous study projects on established methods to effect work simplification, tooling and fixture improvements, workflow, reliability of equipment, etc. for the purpose of manufacturing efficiency and expansion of throughput capacity.

Review drawings for correct application of latest specifications. Make recommendations relative to manufacturability of components and apply good value engineering practices for cost reduction purposes.

Confer with manufacturing management and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules and other considerations to facilitate production processes.

Collaborate with team members to gather and analyze process-related data for performance analysis.

Apply statistical methods (SPC) to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.

Position Requirements (must have):
  • BS in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering or the technical equivalent.
  • Min 1 year of manufacturing engineering experience in the aerospace manufacturing industry.
  • Solid cross functional verbal, graphical, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills between different teams and disciplines.
  • Results oriented, and able to learn quickly through on-the-job training experience and observation.
  • Ability to adapt and perform efficiently in a fast paced, continuously growing company environment.

Position Expectations (nice to have):
  • Some experience with NADCAP accredited processes.
  • Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing - Green Belt certification.
  • Some experience with SAE AS9100 environments.
  • Familiarity with industry and military standards and specifications for aerospace and defense projects.
  • Familiarity with GD&T concepts.
