The Doe Run Company is seeking a Hoist Technician to safely, efficiently, and consistently operate mine hoists to transport personnel, supplies, and ore to and from the underground mine. This position is located at Sweetwater Surface in Ellington, MO

Education & Experience:


  • Three months of work in an underground mine.

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred.

  • 5S/Lean manufacturing certification preferred.

  • Environmental safety and health rules and regulations training.

  • Completed training approved by experienced hoist operators.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


  • Basic literacy skills.

  • Ability to mentally process, prioritize, and store information from several sources simultaneously.

  • Ability to give full concentration to the task at hand, such as operating a hoist while considering environment and conditions.

  • Ability to perform light physical exertion to operate hoist controls, lubricate equipment, clean hoist room, paint, etc.

  • Ability to pass annual physical and substance screening; incumbent subject to random substance abuse screening under company policy.

Responsibilities:


  • Operate manual and auto hoists, bringing ore from underground to surface.

  • Transport employees and supplies from surface to underground and back in a safe manner.

  • Conduct daily and weekly hoist inspections.

  • Communicate by phone, intercom, 2-way radio, camera, and hoist signals.

  • Maintain a clean, orderly work environment; cleanup hoist drum pit, console and room, including painting, organizing, and labeling as needed.

  • Repair mine lights and fire extinguishers.

  • Monitor potable water chlorine.

  • Prepare hoist reports and fill out a hoist log on a daily basis.

  • Initiate mine evacuation process and facilitate emergency response, when necessary.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Work Environment, Physical & Lifting:


  • Regularly works underground near moving, mechanical parts; frequently works at heights of four feet or more, with fall protection. Frequently exposed to wet, humid conditions, occasionally exposed to vibration and required to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, a respirator, hearing protection, and eyewear. Exposed to moderate noise levels.

  • Regularly requires hearing, feeling attributes of objects, grasping, pushing, standing, walking, driving, and reaching with hands/arms. Frequently requires talking and repetitive movement; occasionally requires sitting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and climbing or balancing. Requires clarity of vision.

  • Regularly required to lift up to 25 pounds.
