Job Description

We are looking for a Special Coagulation Representative (40 hours per week) in our Elmwood Park, NJ location.

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30 pm

POSITION DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

Special coagulation representative performs all duties in a prompt, accurate and reliable manner according to established company and departmental policies and procedures. Serves as a liaison between the Special Coagulation department and clients, both internal and external. Researches, troubleshoots and resolves customer's problems. Manages the distribution and preparation of specimens for testing. Performs a wide variety of administrative/clerical duties, which include but will not be limited to data entry.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS (Minimum):

  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Problem solving skills.
  • Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting is preferred.

  • Use of phone and computer.
  • Long periods of sitting, standing and responsible for lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling objects.
  • Requires constant attention to detail.
  • Mapping/retrieving problem samples.
  • All duties and requirements are essential to job functions.

    Duties will include but will not be limited to:

  • Medium work of lifting up to 50 pounds and/or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Print and check the pending log using all available systems.
  • Place specimens in designated areas according to tests requested.
  • Pour specimens for delivery to other areas.
  • Spin, separate and process specimens for future testing.
  • Follow specimen tracking/retrieval procedures to ensure results are reported within stated turnaround time.
  • Use various computer systems for data entry, which may include patient information.
  • Communicate with other departments when specimens are not located.
  • Communicate with the laboratory or supervisor regarding overdue pending tests and missing specimens.
  • Communicates issues with specimen submission clearly, accurately and effectively to internal/external clients in a courteous manner.
  • Handle inquiries received by telephone, fax or email regarding results, inquiries of tests and services.
  • Respond to inquiries from all functional areas through verbal/written communication.
  • Familiar with sample requirements, test request and medical terminology.
  • Understand the importance of Quality Service and how it is measured.
  • Escalate any/all issues or questions through appropriate channels.
  • Interpret, correlate and ensure accuracy of patient laboratory results and double-check all work prior to completion.
  • Provide guidance to clients for the proper handling of specimens and requirement for testing.
  • Review and verify requisition information on requisition utilizing the computer system and appropriate databases.
  • Attend department trainings and meetings and interacts in two-way communication to assist in process improvement.
  • Comply with both corporate and department policies and procedures.
  • Support the laboratory, as needed.
  • Understand and comply with OSHA, HIPPA and all regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to protective personal equipment (PPE).
  • Train new employees (as applicable).
  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Frequent contact with water (hand washing and cleaning), biohazard body fluids and chemicals.
  • Sufficient noise and interruptions to cause distraction and stress.
  • Hazardous working conditions in which individual is exposed to risk of injury through contact with chemicals and/or body fluids.
  • Constant walking between departments and buildings.
  • Work with multiple computer systems
