Job Summary/Basic Function:


Positioned within the Office of the Dean of Students, but collaborating campus-wide, the Primary Prevention Training Coordinator will coordinate behavioral health primary prevention training and programming efforts for students, faculty, and staff. These primary prevention efforts will aim to 1) impact the negative outcomes associated with ACEs through trauma-informed training and promote access to early intervention services and 2) reduce substance-related behaviors, and improve substance misuse outcomes by increasing protective factors through a diverse array of prevention programming. Students are the intended target population for the above outcomes, but using a model of upstream prevention provided to faculty and staff will improve behavioral health outcomes for the entire campus community.

Level Scope:


Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.


Essential Functions:


60% of Time the Primary Prevention Training Coordinator must:

  • Develop and coordinate behavioral health primary prevention training including gatekeeper and trauma-informed support training.
  • Administrative coordination of the comprehensive behavioral health training and substance misuse integration efforts.
  • Prepare and distribute behavioral health education materials that support primary prevention training content.
  • Collaborate with campus and community partners on alcohol and other drug education initiatives, policies, and programs.
  • Collect and analyze evaluation of training efforts.
  • Assist and/or lead campus-wide initiatives related to behavioral health education.
40% of Time the Primary Prevention Training Coordinator will:
  • Co-lead the JED Substance Misuse and Support in Transition workgroup as a behavioral health education resource.
  • Assist in the coordination of early intervention services on campus and to community resources based on needs.
  • Foster and maintain cooperative working relationships with local agencies and organizations interested in partnering to provide primary prevention to the campus and surrounding community.

  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills that can effectively convey information to individuals at various organizational levels.
  • Ability to work and collaborate successfully with persons, programs, organizations and agencies with distinctly varied missions, goals and objectives.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects, priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to collect, analyze and report program data.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and work productively with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrate skills working with individuals and groups with a wide array of identities and life experiences, including gender, disability, class, race/ethnicity, sexuality, culture, and religion.

Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.


Preferred Qualifications:


Masters degree in social work, education, public health or related field. Project management experience including use of management software and tools.
