Facility: Wellstar KenMar Pediatrics - Marietta


Job Summary: Practice Physician Lead ("PPL") is a WellStar Medical Group physician that serves as the physician leader of his or her practice. The PPL will serve as the liaison between the Medical Group and his or her practice for all matters regarding the delivery of medical services, program management, and medical operations. The PPL will serve as the principal physician leader of his or her practice. In addition to maintaining an active clinical footprint, the PPL will support the mission, vision, goals, and values of the WellStar Health System, primarily through collaboration with executive leadership in shaping and managing the implementation of the WellStar strategy, while focusing on clinical excellence through the provision of quality, consistent, patient-centered care across the WellStar Health System as it relates to the practice of medicine The ability to communicate with all levels of staff that include providers, employees, and c-suite executives is a must. The PPL must have operational knowledge, leadership skills that promote a positive culture of engagement, actively problem solve, promote a thoughtful and respectful work environment. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: Operational Management - Provide supportive leadership to practitioners to ensure achievement of system/specialty operational, fiscal, and quality goals with the following actions but not limited to: - Encourage teamwork and participation - Participate in any necessary face-to-face or phone interviews, recruitment, placement, counseling, and/or termination of physicians - Orient new providers and monitor their ongoing compliance with policies and procedures - Coordinate provider scheduling to ensure efficiency and maximum productivity - Responsible for receiving and assisting with the investigating of all complaints, grievances or questions of policy concerning any provider or the medical facilities - Provide medical leadership and overall supervision to all providers - Intercede in and provide counseling, retraining, direction, and discipline to Regularly assess medical staff perceptions and needs of the medical facilities to ensure harmonious working relationships. - Support the professional development and growth of each individual medical provider. - Support implementation and regular review of the approved regulatory and credentialing standards (i.e., Joint Commission), procedures, and medical protocols regarding patient care. - In conjunction with the WMG and WellStar Health System leadership, provide guidance regarding policies, personnel, services, marketing, quality improvement, and education. - Support the efficient and expeditious operations of the medical practice, providing input on budgets, billing, and equipment. - Interact closely with facility administration to develop goals and provide ongoing assessment to achieve objectives, in keeping with WellStar strategic plan(s). - Work cooperatively and supportively with medical practice administration and physicians to ensure services are available and cost effective, meeting quality and regulatory guidelines. - Review and monitor performance reports as it relates to the organizational/facility specific goals: monthly quality metrics; billings; charges; scheduling; productivity; and other reports as reasonably requested. - Interact with the medical staff, specialists, and community physicians to ensure appropriate and timely patient care, patient transfers, and patient referrals. - Work cooperatively and supportively with departments leaders to ensure availability, effective services, and results reporting. - Hold regular documented meetings (at least monthly) with practice providers (physicians and advanced practice professionals) to discuss system initiatives, patient flow, quality, scheduling efficiency, and patient and physician relationships. - Participate and regularly meet at least monthly with the Regional Physician Lead to review progress of the medical practice. - Regularly attend department and regional council meetings. Quality Improvement - Support the implementation and management of continuous quality improvement programs, ensuring continuous monitoring and assurance of compliance of physician quality care/safety programs. - Promote and monitor ambulatory provider attendance at WMG provider and Medical Staff meetings. - Ensure the center achieves and maintains regulatory and accreditation standards (i.e., Joint Commission, managed care). - Support the development, coordination, and completion of educational programs for providers, staff, patients, and community. - Oversee compliance with managed care requirements, including timely and appropriate medication formulary utilization and specialist referrals. Change Management - Support the implementation and maintenance of system initiatives (i.e., The Care Team Model, extended access with evening and weekend hours and expansion of virtual visits). - Serve as a physician champion or identify designee for successful implementation of system initiatives. Review and monitor compliance reports to ensure providers adhere to care team processes and workflows. - Provide leadership and training to providers to support epic optimization and ensure efficiency and maximum productivity in the electronic health record (EHR). Regularly assess providers perceptions and needs providing support, guidance, and retraining. Required Minimum Education: MD or DO degree from an accredited school of medicine. Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.


  • Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or Medical Doctor

  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support or ACLS - Instructor or ACLS - Provisional


Additional License(s) and Certification(s): Board certified as required for the specialty of practice. Upon Hire Required and Qualify for and maintain membership per medical staff guidelines. Upon Hire Required and Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Georgia. Upon Hire Required Required Minimum Experience: Minimum 5 years practicing as a physician in a healthcare setting. Required Required Minimum Skills: Demonstrated leadership skills and knowledge. Strong interpersonal skills with ability to work collaboratively in multi-specialty medical groups. Excellent physician relations skills and previous experience in growing volume and managing quality improvement. Skills including strategy development, program evaluation, budget preparation, and execution of programs and services to achieve quality standards. Excellent understanding of clinical and technology trends related to the delivery of healthcare services. Excellent communication skills verbal, written, listening, and presentation along with the confidence to favorably represent the organization in both formal and informal settings.
