SUMMARY



The Senior Technical Writer provides support to the Federal Aviation Administration NextGen Program offices.Responsible for authoring and updating of executive briefings and reports, regulatory policy and procedures, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), root cause analyses, user manuals, training materials, technical diagrams, briefs and reports.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS



Must be able to obtain a customer clearance for access to facilities, equipment and property (Public Trust).


Direct experience in gathering information from varied sources, writing, editing, proofreading, documenting and publishing compliant (including 508 compliance) products, policies and procedures required.



KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Develops and fully executes new SOP's in an orderly and concise manner. Maintains documents on an online SOP Library.


Performs regulatory compliance/agency research and analyses, and writes policies and procedures documentation, in accordance with the agency Customer Service goals.


Develops policies, procedures and forms documentation, in accordance with Agency documentation development standards.


Prepares, packages and presents draft documentation to executive management, compliance/risk, subject matter experts and appropriate lines of business for review and publication approval.


Manages the knowledge base library containing knowledge articles (quick instructions) by loading articles following the review of submitted documents by Subject Matter Experts. Reviews articles for order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology.


Regularly reviews, edits and proofs documents. Converts documents into standard template formats ready for delivery to the customer.


Reviews, develops and edits complex written and graphical technical materials including: system configurations, interface control documents, system workflow diagrams, drawings, white papers, studies and other materials.


Ensures compliance with industry standards and best practices of style and format. Commands excellent usage of the English language and provides overall structure and organization of material to create professional documentation.


Works in a team environment and is expected to assist other team members as needed.


Adheres to qualitative and quantitative standards as established to meet contractual obligations and changing business requirements.


Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to maximize personal output.


Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available and receptive to all training made available by the company.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



Bachelor's degree and a minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience or equivalent combination of experience/education.


Relevant work experience in development of documents like software specifications, user guides, training materials etc.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Productivity Tools


Highly organized and extremely detail-oriented with ability to grasp quickly business needs and issues


Self-motivated with proven ability to be flexible and work hard, both independently and in a team environment

Ability to adhere to regularly scheduled business hours



LANGUAGE SKILLS



Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.



MATHEMATICAL SKILLS



Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.



REASONING ABILITY



Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
