Job Description:

Makino is expanding and this is one of the exciting new opportunities. The EDM Sales Specialist will be responsible for sales of new Makino EDM machines in non-ABS accounts within the Makino sales channel. Furthermore, the EDM Sales Specialist will also be responsible for providing technical sales support to the machine sales engineers in ABS accounts. This position will primarily be supporting the Southern California region.



What will I be doing?



EDM Machine Sales & Sales Support



  • Organize and support EDM machine sales to meet or exceed FY sales plan and EDM market share goals.
  • Work collaboratively with MSEs to sell EDM machines in their assigned ABS accounts.
  • Sell EDM machines direct to customers and prospects in non-ABS accounts.
  • Organize work and plan activities for most effective coverage of assigned territory/accounts. Contact and make sales calls to customers and prospects to support EDM sales goals.
  • Coordinate and work with the EDM applications and proposal groups to coordinate technical activities. Activities including:
    • Site visits (MM and AH)
    • Machine demonstrations
    • Test cuts.
    • Machining process reviews
  • Build EDM machine quotations or proposals promptly and accurately.
  • Document and complete detailed Order Data Sheets (ODS) for EDM orders. These are then submitted to respective RSM for approval.
  • Keep customers informed of major delays, changes or situations affecting delivery.
  • Establish unified approach for EDM machine sales with territory Machine Sales Engineer including regular communication, development & execution of penetration strategies and sales follow up.
  • Provide regular reports and updates about sales activity to RSM. Receives technical support and direction from RSM for larger and more complex projects.
  • Provide input to development of annual EDM Sales Plans, execution for those plans, monitoring of plans, and work with channel management to facilitate execution of penetration plans and/or sales improvement plans as required by the sales channel management.
  • Input and maintain all sales data in Salesforce including but not limited to opportunities updated real time, sales call notes, activities, and other data necessary and as requested by sales management.
  • Follow-up on all consumables sales leads either directly for non-ABS accounts or in coordination with MSE for ABS accounts.
  • Develop entry and acquisition of new customers.
  • Perform various other duties as assigned by channel management.



What are the requirements for me to be successful?

  • Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with technical and executive level personnel.
  • Strong aptitude to discuss technical and commercial aspects of EDM machines in a professional and persuasive manner with customers.
  • Ability to "close" the EDM machine sales.
  • Adeptness at developing new customers.
  • Excellent EDM product and application knowledge relative to product offerings is required.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • EDM processing skills with the ability to communicate the complexities to potential customers and distributors is preferred.
  • Rational decision-making skill.
  • Weekly travel required (Company vehicle provided)

What experience should I have?


Previous EDM machine technical sales or support experience.

Prior sales experience preferred including the ability to develop sales strategies and territories.
