Description


Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a full-time, Nursing Assistant Program Coordinator/Instructor at the Walla Walla campus. The start date is at the beginning of the Fall quarter in September 2024.

General Description:

The Nursing Assistant (NA) Program Coordinator is a Faculty position with 55% teaching duties and 45% administrative duties. This position serves as the Program Director for the NA program that is approved by the Washington State Board of Nursing (WABON) for both the Walla Walla and Clarkston campuses. Instructional responsibilities may vary from quarter to quarter for the NA Program. If limited enrollment in the NA program, the NA Program Coordinator may be asked to assist in the Nursing Education program.

Per WAC 246-841A-440, the NA Program Coordinator must implement a new “Common Curriculum” (first nine units must be implemented by September 1, 2024; the remaining three units implemented by September 1, 2025).


Essential Functions:


Student Outreach and Recruitment:




  • Participate in student recruitment activities to attract a diverse population of applicants to the NA profession.

  • Serve as an advisor for students who are applying to the NA program.

  • Student Support:


  • Collaborate with the Center for Integrated Learning division and other NA faculty in the planning, development, and implementation of support strategies for students with barriers to learning.

  • Implement required disability accommodations for students as directed by Disability Support Services.

  • Faculty Support:


  • Conduct quarterly meetings for NA faculty for updates.

  • Identify individual and group learning needs for further professional development.

  • Facilitate staffing schedules to determine payroll needs.

  • Teaching Role:


  • Provide classroom, lab or clinical instruction, up to 0.55 FTE, in selected NA department courses.

  • Provide online instruction using the Canvas online learning management system.

  • Collaborate with the Integrated Basic Education Skills Training (I-BEST) instructors from the Center for Integrated Learning on lesson plans and delivery.

  • Administrative and Supervisory Roles:


  • Comply with all requirements for NA program directors and instructors in approved NA training programs (WAC 246-841-470).

  • Coordinate the application, assessment, and enrollment processes for the NA Program.

  • Create or assist in the development of reports related to student outcomes (attrition and retention) or program outcomes (program completions, certification).

  • Conduct quarterly audits to verify completion of required student records.

  • Assure compliance with and assume responsibility for meeting the requirements for an approved NA Program per WAC 246-841A-390 through 246-841A-490.

  • Assist in the recruitment and scheduling of all other NA instructors involved in the NA course.

  • Plan clinical practicum and other experiential opportunities to ensure that state guidelines are met.

  • Assure evaluation of knowledge and skills of students before verifying completion of the course.

  • Communicate as needed with the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health.

  • Supervisory/Managerial Responsibilities:


  • Ensure adequate NA adjunct staffing each quarter.

  • Orient new NA adjunct instructors to their role.

  • Recommends professional development activities as appropriate

  • Participate in the regular evaluation of adjunct NA instructors per AHE Faculty Contract




  • Budget Authority:


  • Perform quarterly inventory and purchase of supplies and equipment.

  • Maintain program inventory and request needed supplies through the College's purchase requisition protocol.

  • Provide input to the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health on equipment purchases needed for the annual budget.



  • Qualifications:


    Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.




    Required Qualifications (WAC 246-841A-430):


  • Current RN license in the state of Washington

  • Evidence of completion of a training course or other education on adult instruction or one year's worth of experience teaching adults

  • A minimum of three years of experience as an RN, of which at least one year will be in direct patient care.



  • Desirable Qualifications:


  • Education, work and/or current teaching experience that enables the applicant to provide a variety of evidence-based student support strategies.

  • Curriculum development experience

    Conditions/Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time faculty/ administration position exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act. Faculty terms and conditions of employment are negotiated with their exclusive bargaining representative, the Association for Higher Education.     Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment and official college transcripts.     Work Environment/Physical Demands/Travel Required:




  • The work setting is indoors with standard office equipment with minimal potential exposure to hazards. Potential exposure to blood borne pathogens during lab and practicum.

  • Repetitive typing on a personal computer can be expected

  • Hazards associated with providing direct nursing care to elderly patients including possible back injury and exposure to potential disease-causing pathogens

  • The clinical setting requires standing or walking for long periods at a time



  • Compensation:

    The College has a negotiated faculty salary schedule. Employee placement on the schedule is determined by education level and experience. Salary is dependent on the number of days of the contract and the candidate's placement on the negotiated faculty salary schedule. Initial placement is generally $93,621 - $99,371 for a standard 212-day contract, dependent on qualifications (additional compensation for doctorate degree). The College has a comprehensive faculty benefit program including medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; and retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). The college also supports faculty professional development. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
