Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Supervising Psychologist in the Mental Health Resource Unit, collaborates with attorneys to provide forensic clinical services to clients. Engages with individuals, families, schools and other community service providers to provide case assessment and evaluation, identify needed resources, and provide alternative sentencing or dispositional recommendations or options. Ensures that each client is provided with linkage to the appropriate treatment necessary to reintegrate them with their families and their communities. Administers assessment services involving the application of social work and/or forensic psychology principles and techniques in the evaluation, problem identification and treatment planning of adults manifesting complex emotional and psycho-social disorders. Determines and develops sources of information to facilitate treatment. May perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications


  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's degree in social work, psychology, forensic psychology, or counseling is required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed as a Licensed Social Worker (LSW), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC).

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Extensive knowledge of the theories and assumptions underlying the forensic social work and/or forensic psychology field. Working knowledge of the basic principles and techniques in the forensic social work and/or forensic psychology field. Elementary knowledge of the Office of the Public Defender's rules and regulations covering the social work and/or forensic psychology field. Knowledge of evidence-based practices and treatment planning. Familiarity with research and its practical application. Strong communication skills and exceptional writing skills. Bilingual communication skills both verbal and written (Spanish or Polish) preferred. Ability to prepare complex written and oral reports. Ability to work within a judicial setting with the capacity to effectively communicate sensitive and confidential information to the Administration, judges, licensed clinicians, federal and state authorities, and all supportive entities in other state agencies and community providers. Ability to work with diverse populations in court proceedings and in home-based settings. This position requires travel to work assignments throughout Cook County.
