We are seeking dedicated individuals to join our team through our Maintenance Apprenticeship program in partnership with Kansas City Kansas Community College and the KC FAME Chapter. Upon completion of this program and the outlined curriculum, all apprentices will earn an Associate of Applied Science.

The term of the apprenticeship is competency-based with a minimum of 12 months (2000 hours). Accordingly, it is acceptable for apprentices to take up to 2 years (4000 hours) to complete all competencies based on the apprentice's demonstration of mastery of competencies as specified in this work process, supplemented by the recommended 780 hours of related instruction.

Maintenance Apprenticeship Compensation:

Apprentices shall be paid a progressively increasing schedule of wages based on either a percentage or a dollar amount of the current hourly journeyworker wage rate.

Starting compensation is $18/hour

Essential Duties:

Through this program, our Maintenance Apprentices will operate industrial production-related equipment, work with manufacturing-related tools, and perform work processes related to a wide variety of manufacturing settings. Apprentices will learn to set up, operate, monitor, and control production equipment. They will also help improve manufacturing processes and schedules to meet customer requirements.

Each of the Maintenance Apprentices will learn through the following competencies and outputs associated with the mastering of the below. Mastership will be measured by the passing of appropriate testing at the end of each learning section:


  • Operate in the workplace ina. Safe and effective manner adhering to all safety, health and environmental rules and regulations while determining the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).

  • Perform basics of direct and alternating current circuits.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, install and repair basic mechanical systems.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, install and repair basic hydraulic systems.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, install and repair basic pneumatic systems.

  • Set up and operate machining equipment.

  • Perform functions in AutoCAD.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, install and repair electrical systems.

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, install and repair electronic and process control systems.

  • Performs maintenance welding to manufacture or repair parts, equipment, and other materials.

  • Installs and troubleshoot industrial actuators and sensors.

  • Test electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment performance.

  • Installs electrical components for control.

  • Map machine reliability and downtime cost effects.

  • Perform process improvements.

  • Document and design operational test results.

  • Perform automated machine processes.


Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements: To ensure the health and safety in the workplace and for the protection of our employees', wearing PPE is a possibility and includes equipment such as a full Tyvek suit, safety shoes, gloves, safety glasses, face mask, and a full hazmat suit that includes a respirator.

Education:

Basic/Required: High School Diploma or GED.

Essential Qualifications:


  • Apply to the KC FAME Chapter.

  • Complete a Kansas City Kansas Community College admissions application.

  • Participate in a KC FAME Chapter screening interview.

  • Every applicant selected for apprenticeship will serve a probationary period of 90 days.
