Our mission is to serve NHLA Members engaged in the commerce of North American hardwood lumber by maintaining order, structure, and ethics in the changing global hardwood marketplace; providing unique member services; promoting North American hardwood lumber and advocating the interest of the hardwood community in public/private policy issues; and providing a platform for networking opportunities.

Role Overview

This is a full-time on-site commissioned sales position for NHLA, located in Memphis, TN. The priority for the Member Services Advisor will be to generate revenue by selling advertising space across various platforms, including association publications, website, e-news advertisements, webinars, as well as convention exhibit booths, and sponsorship opportunities. Office hours are M-F, 8:00-4:30; some travel required.

Prospecting and Lead Generation:
  • Identify and research potential advertisers within the industry.
  • Generate leads through cold calling, networking, and other proactive methods.

Sales Presentations:
  • Develop persuasive sales pitches and presentations tailored to the needs of potential clients.
  • Effectively communicate the value proposition of advertising across different platforms.

Member Relationship Management:
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing members.
  • Provide excellent customer service to address member inquiries and concerns.

Advertising Space Sales:
  • Sell advertising space in association publications, both print and digital formats.
  • Promote and sell e-news advertisements to maximize visibility.

Digital Advertising Sales:
  • Drive sales for website banner advertisements and other online promotional opportunities.
  • Promote and sell advertising opportunities within webinars to reach a targeted audience.

Convention Sales:
  • Sell exhibit booths to businesses seeking exposure.
  • Offer and negotiate convention sponsorship opportunities to potential partners.

Market Research:
  • Stay informed about industry trends and competitors to identify new sales opportunities.
  • Provide feedback on market needs and competitor activities.

Sales Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of sales activities, customer interactions, and transactions.
  • Provide regular sales reports to management.

• Meets and/or exceeds revenue goals
• Consistently introduces new revenue opportunities
• Establishes productive relationships with existing members
• Makes independent decisions on a daily basis
• Complies with NHLA policies and procedures
• Demonstrates effective follow up on assigned tasks

Selection Criteria
  • Proven experience in sales.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong negotiation and persuasion abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and meet sales targets.
  • Familiarity with digital advertising trends and platforms.
  • Ability to learn the industry and an understanding of client needs.
  • Experience in using sales tools and CRM software.
