Job Description:

Position Summary:

Provides in-depth technical support for voice, data, and security network systems. Creates and maintains detailed documentation; maintains hardware and software standards; collaborates on projects as necessary to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures. Monitors network infrastructure and related systems for performance and integrity, ensuring that all systems are kept current with regard to patch levels, software revisions, and feature sets.

Key Responsibilities/Duties:
• Lead, design, implement, maintain, and support the LAN,WAN, and security networks
• Provide technical assistance to team members with high-level system and networking request
• Design, monitor, troubleshoot, service, and repair security hardware and software related to surveillance, access control, intercoms, wireless and end user support port wide
• Schedule, coordinate, and perform preventative maintenance and upgrades as needed to all security related hardware and software
• Serve as primary contact for all security related systems at all Port Houston facilities
• Proactively provide technology recommendations to IT management
• Provide onsite and remote support for the entire port with critical response time requirements for business technology systems
• Provide in-depth technical support for wireless, video, voice, data, camera and card reader network systems
• Create and maintain network or security infrastructure documentation
• Lead, maintain hardware and software standard and collaborates on projects as necessary to upgrade to new and/or improved communication equipment and procedures
• Coordinate network related operations, maintenance and projects port wide Design, define and recommend changes and upgrades to the network infrastructure and related IT systems, policy and procedures in accordance with industry best practices and current technology trends
• Maintain and update network or security infrastructure monitoring tools in order to provide proactive alerts
• Create and provide network or security infrastructure availability metrics
• Serve as principle technical liaison between IT and third-party networking contractors and consultants
• Provide technical input to the Port's IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans, and participates in both disaster recovery testing and execution
• Assume management and documentation responsibilities for DHCP and IP, and firewalls
• Networking equipment/software refresh plan, VLAN and subletting designs and VPN
• Ensure network and security (access readers/panels and cameras) inventory and location accuracy
• Act in accordance with Port Houston core values (respect, excellence, accountability, diligence, and you)
• Perform other duties as required

Education/Experience:
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Business Information Systems, or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution required
• 7+ years of related network, VoIP, and/or LAN/WAN experience required

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Behaviors:

• Knowledge of Cisco hardware and networking technologies
• Cisco Certifications (CCNA (required), CCNP (required), CCVP))
• Knowledge of Monitoring and Management Software for network or security solution.
• Knowledge of Server and Virtualization technologies
• Knowledge of firewalls
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite including Visio and MS Project
• Ability to plan and execute multi-phased projects with little or no supervision.
