Job Description:

Position Overview: This role involves acquiring raw materials, equipment, and supplies from various suppliers. The individual will be tasked with handling requests for quotations (RFQs), negotiating costs, delivery schedules, and urgent order fees. The candidate must have substantial knowledge of industry practices and the ability to use their experience and judgment to meet objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess New Material Requirements: Evaluate new or modified material needs and procure items or adjust delivery schedules as dictated by an MRP II system.
  • Procure and Negotiate Supplies: Purchase and negotiate the acquisition of materials, equipment, and supplies from various suppliers.
  • Resolve Delivery Issues: Efficiently address and resolve issues related to material delivery that could negatively impact the production timeline.
  • Identify Cost-Saving Opportunities: Identify opportunities for annual cost savings on materials and lead initiatives to achieve these savings.
  • Supplier Performance Monitoring: Ensure supplier accountability by regularly communicating their quality and delivery performance through internal reports.
  • Update Business Systems: Maintain up-to-date records of unit prices, minimum order quantities, and lead times for each part in the business system.
  • Handle Part Obsolescence: Collaborate with the Engineering team to manage issues related to part or supply obsolescence.
  • Quality Assurance Coordination: Work closely with the Quality team to ensure that effective corrective actions are taken by suppliers for non-conforming products or services.
  • Provide Market Pricing: Supply current material market prices for estimating product costs as needed.
  • Negotiate Purchase Agreements: Implement cost reduction strategies to negotiate purchase price agreements and contracts with supplier representatives.
  • Source Alternative Suppliers: Identify and qualify additional suppliers for raw materials, in coordination with the engineering team, to reduce supply chain risks and enhance competitive leverage.

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience in procurement within a manufacturing setting.
  • Proficiency in using ERP systems, particularly MRP modules.
  • Basic technical understanding of procurement tasks.
  • Strong negotiation skills, including both single-order pricing and long-term agreements.
  • Experience in sourcing both direct and indirect materials.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in procuring raw materials in a manufacturing context.
  • Familiarity with the Epicor ERP system.
  • Experience with Kanban, Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI), and other replenishment systems.
  • Background in procuring chemicals, electrical, and mechanical components.
  • Experience in the aerospace industry is an advantage.
