Position Overview

Guzman Energy is looking for a senior Developer and Power Supply working executive with experience in wholesale power supply in WECC and SPP. Responsibilities will include managing our asset offtake, renewable and gas development efforts.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Demonstrated track record in originating renewable and gas fired power projects and executing power supply agreements, a nimble ability to multitask and triage competing priorities, a passion for energy transition and supporting underserved rural communities

  • Understanding of WECC and bilateral transactions

  • Expertise in interconnection and transmission systems across the WECC targeted in Colorado and New Mexico

  • Familiarity and ability to adapt supply strategies to emerging organized markets (SPP West, Markets+, EDAM)

  • Experience in the Mid-C and SPP markets a plus, and

  • Experience in growing and managing a Power Supply and Development team

The position will report to a member of the C-Suite and will be based in Denver, Colorado with a fair amount of travel across the mountain west. Ideally, this position will grow into a C-Suite role.

We offer a comprehensive pay package that includes competitive base compensation ranging from $250-275k (depending on various skills, experience, and other factors), annual bonus tied to individual and company performance, unlimited PTO, medical benefits, and a 401(K)program with employer match. Compensation is subject to negotiation. When not traveling for work, we are in the office Monday-Thursday and hybrid on Fridays.

Responsibilities:

  • The candidate will be a working executive in a lean team that will also grow and manage a Power Supply and Development team

  • Identify and develop opportunities to procure power (energy, capacity and renewable attributes) and develop power generation projects to serve current and future Guzman customers

  • Work within the organization-modeling, planning, origination, to link supply and development plans to load origination opportunities

  • Apply and continually develop an understanding of transmission, interconnection queues, ancillary services, and other components of power supply

  • Execute PPAs and support development of new renewable and gas fired assets

  • Source and maintain new relationships

  • Regional travel in support of business development

  • Other duties as assigned (and as interest and aptitude reveal or develop)

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent

  • 10 or more years energy development and power supply experience

  • Demonstrated management and hiring experience

  • Understanding of Western Bilateral Markets;

  • Fluency with required energy, capacity, ancillary services and renewable attributes required to serve customers

  • Proven ability to lead negotiations and execute standard industry contracts (PSA, WSPP, ISDA, PPAs)

  • Working knowledge of WECC transmission grid and adjacent geographies, SPP, MISO,ERCOT

  • Broad understanding of trends in renewable and gas fired energy generation

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills ability to engage with counterparties and customers

  • Proficiency in power point, excel, word and other standard office skills

  • Ability to work well in a team environment, and solve problems
