We are hiring a Packaging Optimization Engineer to join a top beauty company in East Windsor, NJ. This position will be running for 18 months with the potential to extend and will be based fully onsite in their East Windsor factory.
Salary Range: $65K - $75K (hourly equivalent, based on level of experience)
Responsibilities:
Perform BOM creation/changes for existing products (new components or component versions, artwork updates, design changes, material changes, secondary and / or tertiary pack outs, etc.)
Request and create item codes to allow the Master Data team to enter item setup into SAP
Initiate the BOM by gathering all necessary information from project details, and consolidating the finished good codes and WIPs with all component codes
Manage Packaging quality standards from our suppliers (components only), review / approve / distribute to the Quality teams, and Packaging for retains
Manage the approval of color and defect range boards with our Brand partners
Utilizes CAPE PACK software to provide optimal packer/shipper sizing options
Verifies and coordinates packer/shipper specification with manufacturer and CM or Shiseido Manufacturing site
Performs generation of palletization patterns for existing and new products using CAPE PACK software
Manage Artwork changes by providing new component codes, BOM updates, facilitating mechanical routing and supplier Proof approval
Responsible for approving and posting die-lines into the appropriate artwork system and routing artwork to suppliers per project timeline
Verify technical elements on the mechanicals (die-line, weight claim, color/process, codes) and validate consistency of proof matching corresponding to mechanicals
Receive target submissions from Marketing for molded and printed components (color, texture, finish)
Send color target information to the appropriate suppliers for matching
Provide approvals or directional comments with supervision to each
Supplier to ensure achievement of color matching of linked components (e.g. bottle and cap)
Receive returned samples from suppliers and help drive approval of
Light / Standard / Dark (LSD) color with the brand
Ensure all color range boards are approved with the final color and design range
Ability to handle multi-task projects with limited supervision
Meet timeline due dates for all required Packaging actions
Manage Value Analysis projects (supplier changes, color/finish/texture changes, design and other packaging changes)
Create and/or revise new component specifications to suppliers (primary, secondary, and tertiary)
Identify the relevant test methods (components & finished goods) and initiate Packaging lab testing, data validations and reporting
Issue FG specification and maintain the specification with any necessary updates, including palletization
Review and approve technical engineering drawings for components and assemblies
Perform statistical analysis from testing data in order to assess specification targets and tolerances
Attend line trials and Finished Good production start-ups as needed
Package Quality issue resolution
Required Qualifications:
BS + degree in Package Engineering or similar Engineering discipline (mechanical, material science)
PE certification is a plus
1-3 years of relevant packaging and beauty-industry experience
Basic knowledge of molding processes, plastic resin properties and package testing methods
Basic knowledge of CAD software and 3D printing is a plus
Must understand the total Product Development process, Manufacturing execution, Supplier processes, Marketing and Computer Applications
Must be PC literate and competent with Microsoft Office applications (especially Excel and pivot table functionalities).
Responsible for initiating and resolving queries from other functions in a timely manner and communicating and escalating issues when appropriate
Aware of cross-function and regional impact of decisions
