About the Company

Aralez Bio is the developer of noncanonical amino acids designed to make valuable products in a sustainable way. The company has invented an enzymatic method for synthesizing noncanonical amino acids (ncAAs) also called unusual or unnatural amino acids. Our proprietary approach enables ncAAs to be synthesized with high enantiopurity in just a single step, giving our clients access to amino acids that are needed for innovations in pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and functional materials. Our process is 10x cheaper, 10x faster, and 50x greener than conventional approaches, while simultaneously expanding amino acid chemical space 100x.

Job Summary

The Director of Manufacturing will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing operations, ensuring the efficient production of high-quality products. This Director will report to the CTO and manage the manufacturing team directly. This role requires a strategic leader with a strong background in chemistry or chemical engineering, experience in process development, and the ability to manage resources effectively. The Director of Manufacturing will work closely with cross-functional teams to align manufacturing goals with the company's overall objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership and Management:
  • Oversee and manage all manufacturing operations, ensuring adherence to ISO-9001 and other regulatory standards.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the manufacturing team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality.
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to optimize manufacturing processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs.

Production Oversight:
  • Ensure that manufacturing activities meet production schedules, quality standards, and budgetary requirements.
  • Monitor and control production processes to meet product specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Coordinate with R&D, Quality Assurance, and other departments to ensure seamless transfer of new products to manufacturing.

Process Improvement:
  • Identify and implement process improvements to enhance manufacturing efficiency, product quality, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Lead initiatives for the adoption of new technologies and methods to improve manufacturing capabilities.
  • Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress and drive continuous improvement.

Budget and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage the manufacturing budget, ensuring efficient use of resources.
  • Allocate resources effectively to meet production goals and strategic objectives.
  • Oversee procurement and maintenance of manufacturing equipment and materials.

Team Development:
  • Recruit, train, and develop a high-performing manufacturing team.
  • Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment that encourages teamwork and innovation.
  • Provide mentorship and professional development opportunities for team members.

Strategic Planning:
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to develop long-term manufacturing strategies aligned with company goals.
  • Participate in business planning and forecasting activities to ensure alignment of manufacturing capabilities with market demands.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and advancements to maintain a competitive edge in manufacturing technologies and practices.

Risk Management:
  • Identify potential risks in manufacturing operations and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure contingency plans are in place to address production disruptions and emergencies.
  • Maintain robust documentation and reporting systems for traceability and regulatory compliance.

Stakeholder Communication:
  • Communicate manufacturing performance, challenges, and opportunities to senior leadership and stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support product development, commercialization, and supply chain initiatives.
  • Represent the manufacturing function in external audits, inspections, and regulatory submissions.

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.

- Minimum of 10 years of experience in manufacturing, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.

- Strong knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.

- Proven track record of successfully managing large-scale manufacturing operations.

- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

- Ability to make data-driven decisions and solve complex problems.

- Strong understanding of safety, quality, and regulatory standards in manufacturing.

Compensation

Aralez Bio's salary range for this position is $200,000 - $250,000 per year. This exact salary will be based on your level, as judged by your interview performance and experience. Salary is just one component of Aralez Bio's total compensation package for employees. Your total rewards package will include equity, medical, dental and vision coverage, weekly catered lunch, an unlimited PTO policy, yearly company retreat, and other benefits.
