We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Product Development Lead to join our Adventure Sports platform which consists of Fox Racing, Bell Helmets, Giro Sport Design, CamelBak, QuietKat Electric Bikes, Blackburn and more. In this role, you will lead product development of moto, bike, and outdoor packs and accessories (mid-goods). The Product Development Lead will play a key role in launching innovative and performance-driven packs and accessories that meet the needs of bike, moto, and outdoor enthusiasts, across the Adventure Sports platform of brands. This role oversees a team of international product developers, developing all products within defined feature, quality, cost, and timeline targets from brief to production.

This position reports to the Sr. Director of R&D and allows you the flexibility to work a hybrid schedule a few days from home and the rest in our Irvine, CA office.

As the Product Development Lead, you will have an opportunity to:
  • Oversee product development of all pack and accessory lines across multiple brands within the Adventure Sports platform, from concept ideation to production implementation.
  • Oversee and guide dynamic team of international pack developers to manage pre-production process and review, color and graphic refresh, essential PLM deliverables, and SMU / BTS initiatives.
  • Conduct research, exploration, and analysis to identify materials, construction techniques, and features that enhance pack functionality, durability, and aesthetics.
  • Partner with design and product management teams in comprehensive prototype and costing reviews, to bring design vision to life within the confines of target costing.
  • Source and evaluate materials and components, working with suppliers to ensure quality, performance, cost, and sustainability standards are met.
  • Partner with factory teams to coordinate project calendars, establish prototype process and cadence, troubleshoot construction challenges, and cost engineer product builds.
  • Participate in cross-functional stakeholder milestone meetings, to coordinate project actions, mitigate project risks, and communicate challenges and potential solutions.
  • Oversee creation and management of Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all NPI pack projects.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to fulfill all calendared development deliverables, spanning from seasonal project kickoff to final pre-production sample approval.
  • Manage communication flow with in-house and contract designers, overseeing calendar deadlines, organizing sample review meetings, and providing factory cost / construction feedback.
  • Consult on seasonal development calendar creation in all pack product categories.
  • Create, implement, and manage development process improvements with factory teams and raw material suppliers that create focus and increase workflow efficiency.
  • Facilitate constructive feedback from factory and overseas development teams on construction and materials through regular prototype reviews.
  • Partner with Product Management and QA teams to establish durability and performance testing protocols for finished products, ensuring compliance with industry regulation and market standards.
  • Execute thorough factory cost BOM reviews and manage factory cost negotiation across assigned soft goods projects.

You have:
  • Bachelor's degree in industrial design, Product Development, Engineering, or related field.
  • 6-8 years of soft goods product development experience, with a focus on cut and sew packs and materials.
  • Experience managing direct reports and delivering successful development projects.
  • Experience working within a design culture based around innovation and advanced product creation.
  • Strong understanding of product development lifecycle, manufacturer and supplier relationships, and product cost engineering and negotiation.
  • Demonstrated expertise in pack build and construction, materials selection, and manufacturing processes.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to think strategically, prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and enforce accountability.
  • Demonstrates innate organizational skills, with meticulous attention to managing and tracking details.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to lead, inspire, and work effectively across domestic and international cross-functional teams while advocating for their needs and contributions.
  • Strong knowledge of moto, bike, and outdoor market trends, consumer preferences, and competitive landscape.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to foster a culture of creativity and innovation.
